This time though, Universal is handling the distribution and might actually pose some competition. Jumanji will pass that number first, so it's actually 821.8M from Wonder Woman it needs to pass. Oh right, completely forgot about Jumanji. That makes a difficult milestone even more of a reach. Coco would have to be the highest grossing Pixar film in Japan to beat Wonder Woman WW. UK should add about $30m. South Korea $15m or more, The nordic countries (where it has yet to open) can add about $15m, and other holdovers can add about $20m more. Adding these up it will need $78m from Japan, which would place it #4 Pixar film in Japan behind TS3 ($126M), Nemo ($102M) and MU ($90M). Considering how Coco is already the highest grossing Pixar film in China and locked to be second highest grossing Pixar film in South Korea (with an outside chance of first), I see no reason why Coco will not replicate this in Japan and climb into the top 3 Pixar films released there. Looking at the three-day weekend only, Coco is 46% ahead of Moana and has strong reviews that kick off what should be a long run, particularly with school holidays ahead. The full international weekend was $18.3M for an offshore cume of $455.2M and a global tally of $655.9M. Notable holds include France (-8%), the Netherlands (-19%), Chile (-21%), Korea (-27%), Brazil (-31%), Bolivia (-31%), Spain (-28%), Venezuela (-34%), Germany (-38%) and Italy (-38%). Coco continues to be the No. 1 movie in Argentina, Chile, Ecuador and Bolivia. In Korea, it’s the 4th highest grossing Pixar release ever after 11 days. The top markets are China ($183.5M), Mexico ($57.8M), France ($30.9M), Spain ($18.7M) and Korea ($13.5M). There's no doubt that Coco could follow the Pixar trend in Japan, but I'm saying there's potential for a big return given the themes. This doesn't change your main argument, but it's also worth noting the exchange rates are worse now than when those 3 Pixar films were released in Japan. Finding Nemo is actually the highest grossing Pixar film in Japan at 11 billion yen ($99 million today). Next highest is Toy Story 3 at 10.8 billion yen ($97.2 million today), Monsters Inc. at 9.37 billion yen ($84.3 million today), and Monsters University at 8.96 billion yen ($80.6 million today). 9 billion yen or more in Japan is probably what Coco needs to beat Wonder Woman in case other markets come slightly below your projections. UK can add about $25m more, South Korea $10m at the very least, Argentina about $6m and other holdovers around $15m. Total around $56m for holdovers. In terms of Japan, I just posted this on Japan thread: Corpse is very very knowledgeable on Japan box office, so the estimate should be accurate for a baseline. With $700.9M to date, it’s also the 6th Disney release of 2017 to hit the milestone. The offshore total after adding $11.6M this session is $496.3M. In Korea, Coco has bragging rights to the No. 4 Disney/Pixar movie ever and the No. 2 Pixar title. New this weekend were Sweden and Norway, both with No. 1 starts. In Latin America, the Day of the Dead-themed musical held a number of No. 1s and rose 4% in Chile. France and Spain were off by just 27% and 29%, respectively. With awards momentum and Japan still on deck March 16, we’ll be hearing more from Miguel. The Top 5 markets are China ($183.5M), Mexico ($57.8M), France($32M), Korea ($22.5M) and Spain ($20M).
