Watched this instead of the Oscars. Even after the glorious fuck-up with LLL, I still made the right choice. A+ easily top 5 of 2016, and gonna be top 5 2017 too, most likely.

I echo what most others have said.  Sweet movie with a terrific script and a great performance by Julian Dennison.  Really funny and lots of nice pop culture references.  Glad I saw it.

I think something that probably flew over most peoples heads (internationally) was the fact that all the news presenters are our actual news presenters.

Breakfast is one of our mornings news shows and they had them in the film.

 

John Campbell is one of our more recognisable journalists. He had a 7PM show for years and now has a radio thing and he also had a part in the movie.

 

It was pretty fun to see them getting involved, but it's something you wouldn't really notice if you don't live in NZ.

I don't think it's ever been said what the exact cause was, but it was probably a heart attack or something along those lines.

A heartfelt and often humorous film that has a real sense of adventure about it. Neill and Dennison are fantastic, and truly make their makeshift family worth the hidden love they have for each other. The definition of a very nice, pleasant film. A-
