davincicode1
I made a list of all horror (wide releases) movies released for past two decades and their domestic grosses. The highest grossing is obviously "Get Out", and it will remain on the top spot throughout the year and beyond (at least 3 years). Another observation, have you all noticed that the three highest grossing horror movies this decade are made of POC? that is truly fascinating, especially when you keep hearing about and even witness the lack of opportunities presented to POC directors, that makes it even more of a big deal. 170 M. That One Girl
Even if IT outgrosses Get Out, then the top spot as a horror director will still go to an Argentine filmmaker.

It makes no sense to post a 2 decade list and than have your point of comparison being the last decade. What was the point of posting a 2 decade list? 2 decade list means nothing to your point. Also, how do you define Horror? Ghostbusters? Pan's Labyrinth? American Psycho? Constantine? Goosebumps??? Yet you don't include I am Legend? Sixth Sense?
That One Girl
yeah even if it does seem like he took some time to come up with that list, Sixth Sense is the highest grossing horror flick from 1997 and beyond (if you count Sixth Sense as more of a thriller, then I Am Legend still tops Get Out, as does World War Z, etc.)

Horror (or any genre) will often have some classification issue but that statement seem a bit strange, not many saw Get Out coming, horror genre is a good one for small movie exploding at the BO, we could have a surprise 200 million hit. But also one of the Alien/WorldWarZ/Cloverfield/Universal Horror monster universe franchise could make an horror entry that would have a chance at beating Get out.. Even if that's the case, Signs, I Am Legend, World War Z, War of the Worlds, hell maybe even Godzilla (I mean he counted Goosebumps and Ghostbusters) should count as well. not saying it's a bad list, it's interesting, but there are some shaky qualifications as to what's defined as a horror film.
