a2k
Not many animations have opened in December off late. I think the last one was Tintin, co-incidentally in a year with the same configuration. So that's good for us http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=daily&id=tintin.htm

Even if you haven't seen it in movies, it's been done on TV millions of times. Same goes for Zootopia's message, too. Every message has been done to death. It depends on the execution more then anything.
CelestialFairyIX
Sing was actually surprisngly good in my opinion. Not a Moana, a Zootopia, or a Finding Dory, but good. Just like how Ariana is a good singer, but will never stand among the likes of Whitney, Mariah, or Barbra. Just good. A film that makes you say, "Aw!" and then move on. Ya know?

I chuckled a bit and it was good for children, the talent in the voice casting was there too. Illumination really does lower the standards for good animation though. This will likely be a pretty good success for a movie that's not quite as good as the first Despicable Me, but probably better than the rest of what they have to offer. They tried a little more with this one, but it was still about as generic and forgettable as a movie can get. Illumination has never really one for quality control, more budget control. You look at Studios like Aardman, Laika even WAG and the films have had better scripts and humour than SLOP and Minions

I don't anticipate their MO for their films changing. Their movies are basically exactly what it says on the tin.

Christmas isn't the Problem, it's Christmas eve falling on the traditionally heaviest movie going day of the week. It's like when Halloween falls on Friday or SATURDAY it screws the whole weekend up. Frankly if Sing is anywhere close to 10m today than 60m on the 4 day is nearly a foregone conclusion since Christmas day will be massive for it and Monday will increase over Sunday.
