Passengers is also an unfortunate blow to Jennifer Lawrence's drawing power, proving that it’s much harder for her to draw an audience outside of an ironclad franchise. Last Christmas, Joy was sold on Lawrence’s image alone, but like Passengers, didn’t dazzle critics or crowds and the film fell flat with a 3.3x multiple off its $17M opening for a final domestic of $56.4M (not good for a holiday movie).
oth critics and audiences have turned a cold shoulder toward Passengers, respectively with a 32% Rotten Tomatoes rating and B CinemaScore

= acc. actual trends R1 earned Saturday (I think it is meant as Friday, also speaks about Friday later on)) about $23m and ~ aims at a 4-day weekend of over the $100m mark (to bear down on?)

Sing won with about $13m silver (aka 2nd place) and could/maybe count on more than $55m in 4 days ($76m in 6 days)

At least Friday are the three other new starts in the top 5: Passengers ($4.5m), Why Him? ($3.75m) und Assassin's Creed ($3.75m).

Why I think it might be less an example than thought of at first glance (at least I didn't look to closley earlier on)

the release days were in 2011 less spread out than this year, beside I think there is overlap in the GA age groups... the films have quite differing up and down percentages

put in spoiler tags as not this weekend, but s so many seem to look at it, I tried to prepare it with the Monday's, but not the whole week = I hope it is a bit better viewable on e.g. a mobile like I imagine the whole week might look like

RT is coming for Wonder Woman too, careful what you wish for

What are you talking about? It's a DCU movie, none expects it to do well with the critics anymore. 50-60% is my expected RT range for that and a bit lower for Justice League.

A bit annoyed by the FB numbers by the way, I sure hope it does better than those est. Still the best movie of 2016 for me.

I'm really disappointed with these numbers for FB :(

Is it going to hit $223m?

It's on 215 on Friday (with 0.980m), so 8m away from 223m. It will get there by Monday (2nd Jan) itself.

Will average 0.9 to 1m over the next 10 days (Sat, 24 Dec to Mon, 2nd Jan) for 9-10 more / 224-225m.

After 2nd Jan it should have enough steam to cross 230m. Am thinking ~232 final dom.

From what I'm reading on Twitter, neither JLaw or Pratt are draws, the real draw of Passengers is Pratt's ass.

I want to see the movie just for his ass, tbh. Though I'd rather show him my ass.

I really urge people to check passengers out. A better movie that I believe critics give it credit for. Go on cheap night even just for the amazing visuals.

And the more you think about it the better it becomes. Its one of my faves of the year.

Passengers and Assassins Creed will be two of the biggest domestic flops of the year.

Joining Alice 2, Warcraft, BFG, Turtles 2, Deepwater Horizon, Tarzan, Independence Day, Huntsman 2 and of course Ben Hur.

11 films with domestic grosses further below their production budgets than Ghostbusters.

A small win, lol.

13 m for Passengers' 3-day?

Did anyone see that one coming? :jeb!:

After it's reviews and then previews, yes.

Sony took a gamble on two folks who didn't have the box office clout that everyone thought they did.

Ghostbusters was a bad film and personified everything wrong with 2016.

This is the only site where I see people defend this film.

I can point you to some more if you'd like? However, it might require you to remove your head from the ground.

Its nothing more then a forgettable summer remake like the many that exist.

The only reason it is noteworthy because of all the nonsense around its release.

Agreed with the first part, don't know if this is the only site but defense is scarce for sure. Unnecessary sequel/reboot, too expensive, one star with limited appeal (opens cheap movies), "progress" cited as more important than quality, fake controversy. It flopped deservedly.

Miss Sloane is another huge flop.

Defense is scarce for Ghostbusters because most other places aren't openly discussing. This is the only site I've been to where folks are still discussing it. For such a "mediocre and terrible" movie that some of you guys claim it is, you sure spend so much damn time talking about it.

You forgot maybe the biggest of them all: Gods of Egypt
