ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY

rogueone_onesheetA.jpg

This was epic as hell, and if you didn't cried on the beach scene, congratulations, you are a rock with no feelings. You are a robot. This was such a rollercoaster of emotions, combined with fantastic action scenes. The Imperial Walkers battle was the stuff of dreams, and the space battle was amazing. It actually might be a better movie than The Force Awakens. Bless the combined writing skills of Tony Gilroy with the directing skills of Gareth Edwards and we get the best blockbuster of the year. Now, about that footage in the teaser trailer...

Seeing an Asian person in the main cast of Star Wars was like my 40 year old sprinkler finally getting to go off for the first time, and it was glorious.

Almost definitely better than TFA for me. Really really great expansion and story, if a bit uneven at the start, but once it gets going it REALLY gets going. Third act is like everyone says amazing, there is a sequence that really made my jaw drop too (zero points for guessing). And really really strong finish.

Absolutely gorgeous cinematography and visuals, seeing it projected on 70mm film with the fine grain over the digital footage gave them that one final touch. Nice score from Gia too.

Ok, so no matter what the number one choice is, I have to get a quote ready for either A Monster Calls or The Jungle Book!  Then my dream of being in a CJohn list might become true!

The Jungle Book: "This movie was fucking fantastic.  The visuals were so good that they felt real and I couldn't believe how well done they were.  The voice acting roles were top notch, and this just proves a Disney rule is imminent."

A Monster Calls: "Well...I haven't seen it but it looks good I guess."

Dat CJohn turnaround.

And to think it would not have happened if I hadn't shamed/lawyered him in the spoiler thread into actually seeing the movie in theaters instead of pirating select scenes.

DUNKIRK PROLOGUE IMAX

OMG this was incredible. The most epic and outstanding IMAX experience ever put on screen. Tom Hardy looks more alive than ever and I was all teared up when Kenneth Branagh said You think this is game You Americans like to think of yourselves as direct, but I wonder if perhaps you are just rude Partnerships are delicate, Mr. Ryan. Sometimes they end violently You can almost see it from here... Home. I had to clean my face from all the tears. Stunning cinematography, flawless direction and Nolan's penis finally revealed in glorious IMAX. An experience for the ages.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN

A MONSTER CALLS

A Monster Calls is a phenomenal emotional ride that made me cry more than once. It is such a perfect and wonderful movie. JA Bayona created a masterpiece. Felicity Jones gives us a moving Oscar worthy performance, and the final "twist" with Liam Neeson made it all even more emotional. The use of the "paintings" to illustrate the stories the monster tells the kid was perfect. This is the best movie of the year and a truly phenomenal achievement both technically and emotionally.

What We Said: Nothing, because nobody here bothered to see it. In fact, like Lion, we don't even have a thread for this movie either.

But here is a quote from That One Guy: "Well...I haven't seen it but it looks good I guess".

Batman v Superman. The ultimate masterpiece from director Zack Snyder. It made us laugh. It made us smile. It made us cry. It made us scream. From the stunning visuals to the masterful storytelling, Snyder gave it all in this perfect superhero movie. Henry Cavill once again showed why he is the perfect Superman, Ben Affleck gave us the ultimate Batman and Gal Gadot presented us with a Wonder Woman for the ages. Jesse Eisenberg slayed every other attempt at a superhero villain too, as the sickening Lex Luthor. If you didn't liked this movie, you don't like superhero movies.

This was a crazy fun ride. It's understandable why critics didn't like it, and why many people won't like it. This film is for fans of the source material. Snyder is crazy to do what he did in this movie, and WB is crazy for allowing him to do it. Very bold and risky move. They could easily do a crowd-pleasing movie and they chose not to. But as a fan, I'm so glad they did it. And in the long term, it will pay off. As the whole DC Universe unfolds, people will look back at this movie and praise it like it deserves. Snyder created another masterpiece.

Ben Affleck is the best on screen Batman we've ever seen.

There's a lot to like, but a lot of it is burdened down by a lot going on which leads to a lot being underdeveloped or left as sequel bait. But the underlying core theme shines through, even if Supes never really gets a chance to articulate his side.

But the acting was strong, especially Trolluthor and Batfleck. Irons was a nice presence as well.

Mr Pink

A dark film, that takes its subject matter seriously without ever debasing it to the dreck of Marvel. Snyder's magnum opus is long but rewarding, politically apt, with tremendous character motivations, subplots, and themes that get down to the core of the two most popular superheroes of our time. Ben is plays the Batman we've all been waiting for, a dark, brooding billionaire, haunted by his parents, while Cavill brings the warmth as both Clark Kent and Superman, as his role expands from Man of Steel. Most importantly, Jesse Eisenberg steals the show as the sinister but witty Lex Luthor, showing superhero films how it's done better than possibly any superhero villain before.

Ok, I am gonna reveal the truth. I enjoy BvS a lot, especially the Ultimate Cut. Is it my number 1? No, and I thought the Mr Pink quote would give it away. Besides that, there are big ass spaces between the movie title and the first poster, between the posters and between the poster and the final text. Maybe you guys should try to see if there are any words written in a different color in there
