It makes me think that it's fake in the movie, too.

Exactly!! It did not sound like the haughty, over-the-top "British accent" that you normally see glamorous American actresses do in movies, but like a caricature, a parody of said accent. I wonder if the accent is part of an elaborate ruse that includes conning Rebel Wilson's character too. Is that how the original Dirty Rotten Scoundrels went?

Up next, I want her to play an action hero and be the lead in a decent-budget high-concept horror film ala What Lies Beneath.

What I got from the trailer is that Anne Hathaway commits to the horrendous accent all the way through and only changes to her real voice when her character is "in a con". Already sold on this movie even if the trailer wasn't that funny.
