TalismanRing Posted April 23, 2017 Author Share Posted April 23, 2017 PTA dropped only 15% with estimates (could be less with actuals) I wonder if they'll expand again in next weekend's dead w/e especially since some of these theaters are only split screens (2-3 shows a day). Unless it plummets after this w/e I don't see how it misses $20m and with good Indie legs from here on out might do $25m. A much needed win for Fox Searchlight. Agreed, the plot is pretty straightforward but the acting is wonderful. It's also the increasingly rare movie that made me laugh and tear up multiple times. As for Evans well even hard bitten top of the line critics aren't immune to his charms in this movie TIME: Chris Evans Wraps a Great Performance in Gifted Stephanie Zacharek Quote Even if Gifted is flawed, Evans ought to be making more movies like it. He's marvelously casual and affectionate in his scenes with his young co-star--Grace clambers over him as if he were a jungle gym, and he barely blinks. There's something ridiculous about Evans' beauty. Even with modern-day facial hair, he's like a caricature of a 1940s football hero, yet he carries it all with a shrug. While he's young, Evans should be playing more small-town guys who have no idea how fabulously good-looking they are. The marketing budget even as it went wide was probably $5-10m instead the $20-30m it would have cost as a usual wide release - so not cost effective even with a bigger return. They leaned heavily on WOM and the actors and that seems to have worked so far. Evans and the cast did a lot of interviews and promo for a film this size. The one you described being the most powerful but also The lunch scene where Evelyn calls Spoiler Diane and their father weak The walk and talk after the courtroom scenes which gave another slant to their relationship Spoiler with their shared humor - The man who shot Liberty Mutual I found it telling that when Evelyn was showing Mary the photo album Spoiler That all the photos were of her and Diane . They were always together she says.
