Does this mean the takes about "Marvel was TOO SCARED to do a REAL HORROR movie" takes will finally shut the fuck up now that they got the weirdest fucking horror guy they could find

These people who say that are the ones who think horror is heads and blood flying through the air.

Always doubly hilarious given Derrickson isn't even a very good horror movie director. From the Platinum Dunes school of "Loud noises and orchestra strings!".

Not all of Raimi's films are imbued with his horror sensibilities though, and there's no guarantee that this will either

Yeah, that's what I'm "worried" about too. I told my friend about the news who really likes Raimi and we're probably going to see him at a convention, but he didn't seem thrilled about this news. He doesn't feel he'll be able to do what he normally does in a Marvel movie.

Weird how multiple other directors all did what they normally do.

Fantastic news! Folks worried that Marvel won't let Raimi make his movie need to look at Ragnarok by Taika or Gunn. Hell Russos with Winter Soldier, Infinity war and Endgame. They had complete control and I have no doubt Raimi will have complete control as well.

Yep last director was mediocre. Horror version would bomb

Yes, but perhaps more significantly, no.

Derrickson's sense of horror is far less inspired than Raimi's. It's lowest common denominator horror.

Sam Raimi is fun and playful when it comes to horror. Never taking himself 100% seriously, and visually innovative. He's also a much better director of actors.

He was actually very close to actually getting it originally, but got cold feet at the absolute last second. Apparently they had contracts written up and everything.

Agreed and I think Benedict Cumberbatch nailed the role. Like RDJ for stark and Phoneix for Joker.

it doesn't answer any question so far. The real question is how much leeway Marvel is willing to give him, and how much Raimi is willing to adapt his style to the Marvel template.

As much as he wants. They would take Cameron but his budget would be 400 million and take 10 years to finish

The answer obviously can’t be “as much as he wants”, because he would still have to tie Scarlet Witch and the multiverse into it, while also making sure he doesn’t do anything that might blatantly contradict the rest of the MCU, or that might go against what Feige has planned.

Well the MCU template is copied from his Spider-Man movies in the first place so that shouldn't be a problem. Obviously he would have very little creative freedom for a movie about to start shooting though.

That’s what negotiations are for. Providing the filmmakers with the rules to follow.
