Baumer's live reaction to Hard to be a God | And some other people subject themselves to it as well

I think I might crack open the bottle of wolf last sitting next to me. I might need it to get through this movie. Now there is some enormous fat guy sitting in the rain. He's spitting up a bunch of spew and there's chickens behind him. More chickens.

This is gonna be so epic. Fun fact, this was the director's last film, and he spent a real long-time trying to get the film made.

Some of you guys know way too much about film LOL.

The direction is very interesting so far. There has not been a lot of cuts so far. The camera is just moving fluidly from one scene to the next and the actors are doing a pretty good job of it.

I'm also aware of the 1989 film based off the same book that features Herzog in a role. Yeah, I'm such a film geek!

i once programmed an experimental short film festival. if you think this is bad i've seen hell. it's not this but it's a bunch of young filmmakers who think they're this.

Pretentious student filmmakers are the worst. And every student filmmaker is pretentious.

(Speaking as an ex-student filmmaker, and a pretentious one at that).

Please enlighten me. How did you guys even find this movie or even hear about it?

The novel it's based on is a sci-fi classic here and the movie was a pretty big deal even if not a commercial hit for obvious reasons. The director was also a major figure in Soviet/Russian cinema, and the movie was additionally notorious for spending about a decade in production and then post-production. And of course it was more than uncompromising and wild enough to attract attention in the West too.
