With Coppola it's all about tone and atmosphere, though. I bet she has some neat tricks up her gown.

Gothic Horror (which is what this film is) and Sofia Coppola seem like a good match.

Agreed she has some tricks up her sleeve, but pretty sure the basic plot...and the fate of the main male character....will be the same.

"The Beguiled" was a pretty daring film for Clint Eastwood and Don Siegal to make, and was an early sign that Eastwood did not want to be just another action star.

Of course Siegal and Eastwood played the "One for Us,then One For Them" game here. After only a few weeks  break after completing The Beguiled, a film with questionable box office appeal, but one they wanted to do, they started filming a movie with much better box office prospetcs, and Eastwood returning to his tough action hero form. It was called "Dirty Harry" and the rest is history......

How Sofia Coppola really put money on the table :

directing Perfume Ads for Dior.

So doing movies that barely anybody sees is not her concern.

And she always can always follow her father in the Family Business, and take over the Winery....

It is Ironic that what started for Francis Coppola as a "Hobby Business" that he started more for fun and a love of wine then anything else. has ended up making him much money then his films ever have.

I think this may have a chance of actually making a little money;low production costs and I got a feeling a lot of the stars did this for less then their normal salaries.

Have any of you caught the Don Siegel/Clint Eastwood version from '71? Released the same year those two teamed for Dirty Harry. It's pretty fucking good. Very, very much game to catch this one and see Sofia Coppola's take on this weirdly humorous story.

I like the '71 version but not over the moon about it. That there's room for improvement makes me more intrigued to see Coppola's version.

Oh, damn. I was hoping to see it this month. I'd hoped it would to open to 1500+. Cast is killer and Coppola's a name filmmaker.

It's opening in semi-wide release on the 30 but I think Focus is giving it a platform launch similar to Nocturnal Animals (which opened in 37 theaters) next weekend.

Got the trailer at Lost City. Looks like a fun time although not necessarily what I was expecting from Coppola.

"The Beguiled" is not going to be a "fun" movie.  A good movie perhaps, but not exactly "Fun". It is going to be very dark Gothic Horror.

Yes. A huge Siegal fan.
