Top 10 of 2018 predictions: From JAN 1st 2018 to DEC 31st 2018

Incredibles 2 is being overpredicted by everyone because it's the sequel they wanted. It's not necessarily the sequel families wanted.

Dory was also claimed overpredicted here. Most predicting in the $375M-$400M range like TI2. WIR2 would have been the most recent toon doing $175M-$220M, and Peter Rabbit doing $100M-$200M, and with no Illumination film, and the success of recent superhero movies I could see a breakout. Realistically the lowest point TI2 could hit would be $350M, highest $500M.

Finding Dory's gross pretty much matched Finding Nemo's adjusted first run; Incredibles adjusts to about $360 million. I can see low 400s for I2 (ie around Toy Story 3) under ideal circumstances but I don't think it's going to challenge the popularity of Nemo/Dory.

Realistically, I think it could breakout but low $400Ms or $350M-$385M wouldn't surprise me. I think animated films in 2018 will rebound from this year which looks like the only animated film over $250M domestic is DM3 (and maybe Coco). TI2 will do anywhere from $350M-$525M,  Grinch will do Sing numbers minimum and if special maybe $400M+, Gigantic looks to be weak though but make cash at around $150M-$200M, WIR2 like most animated sequels at the states will either have a performance like TS2/DM2 ($200M-$250M) or a TLBM/HTTYD2/KFP2 ($160M-$180M) in the states. Smallfoot hopefully should squeak by $100M. Animated Spider Man should do over $200M thanks to holiday legs. HT3 and Peter Rabbit should gross in the $110M-$180M range. Scooby Doo could be a dark horse and do $200M+, but I'm thinking either HT1 or HT2 numbers.

@YourMother I would not do one for Deadpool 2 as although I will be released in 2018, not official release date has been set.

Fox has 3 placeholders for Fox/Marvel superhero films next year:

March 2018, June 2018, and November 2018.

Besides these are predictions, Avatar 2 got pushed back (again) and people revised their predictions.

Updated once again.

Good list, mostly agree but some of your superhero multipliers are too high. Aquaman won't make 3.3x its OW and Dead2ool/Black Panther are ambitious. Also you have 50 Shades Freed twice - I'm assuming the one at #19 should be a different movie!

I'll fix the 50SF, Black Panther and Dead2ool I admit are ambitious but crazier things have happened, and Aquaman now opens in the holiday season.

More like half of that.

Christmas legs. Thinking a $40M/$200M run seems fair especially considering Miles Morales is the Spider-Man, in fact I see Gigantic likely doing under $200M.

Ah that release date change slipped past my radar, interesting. Would this be the first big superhero movie to open that close to Christmas? (assuming it doesn't move again)

It would be. Heard a lot of good things from Cinemacon.

I've just researched it, will be the first major superhero movie to open in December since Superman in 1978!

Wow. This could be a breakout.
