Plus the other male Co-star in this film.. Max Zhang recently had another flop in China (The Brink), you guys can google it.

Legendary picked 2 wrong chinese to be casted. Not forgetting that John Boyega is a negative draw in China..no one likes him there..unfortunately. :(

Mitigating factor is that China loves monsters and robots... I still think 150m tops in China IMO.

Where is your proof of this and IF true why don’t China like him?

Word on the street is, its awful.  Someone on these forums went to a test screening 3 months ago (they like everything) said it was near unwatchable not only though, but they also fired the director quietly like 3 months ago, he's not even over seeing the movie, its the studio.

Sucks if it's true. If it's coming from you, then it most likely is.

By the way, by "studio," do you mean Legendary or Universal?

The only reason I ask is because he tweeted this today:

When directors get booted off project for any reason, they tend to come back at the end to say or post that they are doing sound mixing Don't believe me? Ask Trank.

I called it. Even USD100m in China is a coin toss now. And exchange rate now is so good... it might barely sneak pass usd100m

Massive $122.5M opening! $400M+ is looking very possible.

I doubt that. 1/2 comes from China and legs wont be pretty there.

300 mill if lucky

Looking at BOM (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=intl&view=byweekend&wk=2018W13&id=pacificrim2.htm), it seems PRU suffered some pretty harsh drops across the board last weekend.

Is $300m worldwide in danger?

It went from:

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/comscore-announces-official-worldwide-box-office-results-for-weekend-of-march-25-2018-300619111.html

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/comscore-announces-official-worldwide-box-office-results-for-weekend-of-april-1-2018-300622447.html

Pacific Rim Uprising

150,505,000

122,500,000

28,005,000

to:

Pacific Rim Uprising

40,640,000

31,435,000

9,205,000

110m drop (-73%)

Still has Japan/Portugal/Hungary to open

Has for missing 300m, it was at 232.3m after a 40.64m weekend, 81.815m week.

It need to do 1.66 time it's last weekend, 0.827 is last week to reach it.

50% weekly drop would give:

40.9+20.45+10.2+5.1+2.55+1.275 = 80.475 above 310.

Depending on how much it did ow in the 7 or so market it didn't start in, we are maybe talking in an close to 160m global opening, should at least get really close to 300.

Apparently PRU suffered a horrendous drop in Japan. Direct quote (from the Japan thread):

Quote

>Pacific Rim: Uprising may have made some history this weekend, and not the kind it wants to be known for. It's very likely to have dropped over 60% in its second weekend, which is already one of the biggest second weekend drops I can recall for a major wide release, but if it comes in closer to 65%... I'm willing to bet it's a Top 5 all-time worst second weekend decline. I'll do some research into this over the next few days.

Since Japan was the only market left where it could still make some non-trivial amount of money, this surely locks in sub-$300m worldwide.

While PRU didn't have much buzz pre-release, it's still (somewhat) surprising that it's going to miss $300m WW. But since the weekend-to-weekend drops were pretty bad everywhere, I guess there just wasn't word of mouth to support it.

Once China (the only reason it got a sequel) rejected the movie it was done for. It would've needed good reviews to make a decent run domestically. RIP Pacific Rim Franchise....

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic:  $58,671,825    20.5%
Foreign:  $227,700,000    79.5%

Worldwide:  $286,371,825

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic:  $59,066,910    20.5%
Foreign:  $229,300,000    79.5%

Worldwide:  $288,366,910

An opportunity to fudge domestic to $60m, lmao.

PRU's overseas drops (as per BOM) are/were not for the faint of heart:

-74.2%

-60.8%

-37.1% (without Japan opening a 58% drop)

-75.6%

-73.7%

The very latest weekend is still missing from that drop list.
