Fist maze runner or sequel money?

I think no one at this point. Maze Runner had buzz.

There are some reviews out for The Darkest Minds. They are mixed. All with the same prejudice that critics have with YA movies. So I guess this is almost an acclaim lol

I didn't even know this came out this week.

Marketing is really poor. This make me believe budget is very small.

So it looks like this movie is just...competent.

Yes, but critics don't like this kind of movie. Plot problems are more relevant in YA movies than in Superhero movies. Reviews are well satisfactory.

Jennifer Yuh Nelson is getting praise for her directorial work, at least. Give her the next Mission: Impossible if Christopher McQuarrie doesn't return!

She usually works well.  She directed Kung Fu Panda 2 and 3 and also directed 4 episodes of the Spawn Animated Series ( which was insanely, insanely good ).

This feels like a movie made by accident.

It’s fascinating. Why is this here?

The film is averaging 53 on metacritic. If that was the situation, we would be seeing much worse reviews because critics are pretty intolerant when it comes to YA movies. The real problem is that Fox seems to have abandoned the film. Marketing is pretty poor.

This only amplifies my problem. It’s not “too bad” it’s not “too good” it’s just... there. No aspect of this movie draws attention.

I get it now. Your post hinted that TDM was a sloppy film made without planning. I think that's what the word "accident" transmits. Well, critics don't make a film be a comercial success, audience does. it could have been a new "Maze Runner". Now it looks like a new "Beautiful Creatures". lol

Lol. I was talking about the box office.

Quote

Fox’s young adult sci-fi thriller “The Darkest Minds” is hoping to collect around $8 million when it opens on 3,127 screens. It will need to pick up steam in its theatrical run to justify its $34 million price tag.

The trailer is just nothing special for me. But after seeing the film, I found it surprisingly good. It's like X-men mixed with Divergent, and something more.

Really want to see the whole sequels. Hope it can make some profits.

The trailer makes this look like they took the most generic parts of every successful YA dystopian sci-fi romance action whatever, and put it in a blender. But it’s not even like a fresh blend. It’s like after tasting it multiple times in the past and passing on it (Mortal Instruments, 5th Wave, probably others), you found that the blender in the back of your fridge still had some left in it and thought “what the hell, let’s give it another taste”. Just as bad, but also old and stale now.

I'll be honest when i saw the 3-part poster for this I assumed it was some sort of religious movie based off the bible quote, I had no idea it was YA

Biblical quotes are a great device for film imo. Ghost in the Shell, Raging Bull, and True Grit (2010); all regular films that used biblical quotes in interesting, subverise ways. I'm gonna have to look up those posters because I'm interested in looking into how they utilized the verse!
