And if this film opens in the 25/30 million range, you will have some people acting like that is a great triumph.

Not for a 175 Million film it's not.

Whether or not a opening is good or not for a film is tied directly into it's budget.

I am really tired of people ignoring the actual budgets of movies. If you have a 175 million budget you better be opening up with 50-60 million at least.

Read some letterboxd reviews of this and it actually doesn't sound so bad. Sounds pretty generic but maybe reviews won't be as bad as expected? Seems like the budget was actually well spent because the production design, the costumes, and most of the CGI is actually really good. Pretty dumb that Universal is dumping this movie when this could just be harmless fun instead of a Cats like disaster.

Also Nanjiani doesn't say "no one told me there would be a dragon" in the film lol.

It's interesting how people seem to see CGI a lot differently. The CGI looked pretty awful to me. It made the film look like the January release it is.

Granted, I haven't seen the 2nd trailer yet. Maybe it's better....

I'm guessing its inconsistent mostly and thats why the CGI seems terrible in the trailers but not so bad in the final film.

The start of it the also completely animated and supposedly the best part of it.

Apparently, this is doing very good in South Korea

This has become the box office equivalent of a band being 'big in Japan'.

TO be fiar, I think Alli was making a joke.

But yeah, this whole routine of citing a film doing well in one country when it is doing poortly almost every whare else is silly.

I get tired of people here ignoring the realities of the film business in general.

Someone just said 30 Million would be triumph for Doolittle, because it was projecting a bit lower a couple of week ago.

A few more triumphs like that and Universal is going bankrupt.....

even if he CGI was a lot better, the film still looks bad.

I really get tired of the endless emphasis on visuals here. A badly written and directed movie with great visuals is still a lousy movie.

Maybe people are looking at SK because it is one of the very few countries where Dolittle has been released, and the only major market?

Literally nobody thinks that Dolittle will be a financial success for Universal.

There, no need to write the same thing 50 more times in this thread.

I imagine this and Cats are gonna make for a perfect "how and why did so many talented people (who likely weren't even hard up for cash) agree to participate in such an ill-conceived project?" double feature someday.

If this debacle encourages RDJ to go the Christian Bale post-superhero route and do a bunch of mid-budget movies he actually gives a damn about it might all still be worth it. Seriously Rob, there are no more worlds left to conquer.

Wait... there's a dragon in this?! I mean, a guy speaking to animals (most likely as a result of narcotics-fueled hallucinations) is fine, but why are there dragons?
