1st film had amazing legs.  i doubt this will come close. Do you think 50m is locked?

In dollars? Probably not locked but tomorrow is a holiday and it'll be close to $20m 4-day, so I'd say it is 60/40 right now. It doesn't have much competition until Pirates.

Obviously. 50m pounds is impossible with this opening. 50m $ would be 5% increase from 1st film gross when pound was worth lot more.

More info from Deadline:

GOTG2 was the No. 1 movie in all openings, save Portugal, Turkey and Vietnam. It also bested the original in each market, except for Belgium which had previews the last time around.

The biggest play is the UK with $15.5M, followed by Australia at $11.6M, Germany with $8.3M, France at $7.9M and Mexico with $7.6M.

Looking at Talisman number, it openned in an excellent average at 70% of what Civil War did, if it follow Civil War legs it should do about 388 oversea - China, if it does 120 million in China, it should do over 500 million oversea alone, if it achieved 350m Dom, that could be an impressive giant 850 WW box office, even more than the first Guardian.

Putting those guys in the next Avenger movie should definitely help it a lot and could even stop the going tendency of avengers-ultron-civil war, would not surprise me if Avengers 3 achieve a box office performance between Ultron and Civil War, instead of less than CW.

The numbers are skewed a bit because Malaysia and Philippines where CW did huge numbers the OW #s aren't listed

GOTG will be far closer to CW in Europe than Latin America and Asia (even minus China).

In regards to O/S numbers in local currency CW did better than Avengers (and IM3) as did AOU.

550m locked with a $100m OW with most of the markets opened? WTF. Great math skills you have.

[mod edit] It hasn't opened in most of its markets.

Unless you're from the future. You don't know what the fyck the movie is going to end up at, so stop trying to downplay it [mod edit]. Plus it opened way more than the first one, saying it's only going to make 440 million is really really stupid.

If we use multiple in the past, Marvel movies make anywhere from 15%-29% of their foreign total OW.

GV2 is estimated at $101M.

If it's 15%, GV2 heads for an unlikely $675M OS total.

If it's 29% GV2 heads for an unlikely $348M OS total.

If it's 20% GV2 ends at $506M OS total

It it's 22%, GV2 ends at $460M OS total.

24% takes us to $420M OS.

We should have a better idea, next weekend. Guardians 2 has done a decent increase in Europe from 1, it should increase in SK and China even if not huge increases.

Predictions:

China: $110M

UK: $50M

AUS: $30M

SK: $27M

Germany: $25M

France: $23M

Russia: $20M

Brazil: $20M

Mexico: $20M

Puts it at least $325M, not considering other markets.

If we also look at G1 top 5, it equals $230.3M, about 52% of it's OS gross, assuming these numbers are correct and GV2 is at $242M, it'd end at $460M OS.

That would be an enormous jump.  The first only made $10m there and pre-sales don't look that promising.

@TalismanRing South Korea is one of MCU biggest performing markets, but it seems GOTG is the weakest, and the sequel probably will not do big numbers, but do you feel that Spider-Man Homecoming and Thor Ragnorak will gross more than this in South Korea?

Spider HC sure! With Spidey and Iron man
