Has crossed 1mil admissions in Germany; not very good but not bad either (many big releases don't make it that far, see http://www.insidekino.de/DJahr/D2017.htm )

In Austria, it's also above 100k admissions, similar result.

If I look at the Yearly Box Office, I see that  Valerian did better than Spiderman, Kong, Apes and Wonder Woman in Germany.... not bad.

yep, as mentioned, it's not bad, just not very good either (looking back, 5th element counted >3mil admissions in germany back in its day). But it's been a horrible summer for the german boxoffice anyway.

Time have changed.... In France big movies use to make more than 10M admissions... Nearly impossible today...

So your point is . . . . . ?????

This movie is a success and we are going to see sequels?  Because this is a "Valerian" thread, not a Besson accomplishments thread.

Besson confirmed this week to Italian TV and Screenrant he is willing to make a sequel.

Valerian's failure causes Eurocorp to refocus it's future moviemaking efforts.

Entertainment trade magazine Variety said there would be no more attempted French blockbusters, with future EuropaCorp films expected to cost a maximum of £27 million ($45.6m). That is a fraction of the £175m — a European record — that was spent on Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
.......
French magazine Le Point described the movie as a “stinging failure”. France Inter, the state radio station, denounced it as a “fiasco”.

God, what reality is Besson living in?

No one is giving him  the money to make a sequel. Period. End of Story.

I have no problems with somebody liking the film but when it reaches the level of denying reality, that is going way too far.

When he is directly ask about sequel potential regarding box office disappointment and owning a lot of share of a public company that could be affected by is answer ?

Will wait for all the market to open and the first cycle of home video to asses the situation, I have received lot of enthusiasm and demand for a sequel is a perfect and responsible response for someone that is a fiduciary of other people (and is family) money, imo, specially when it is not a Transcendant/King Arthur type of bomb.

But Valrien is looking more and more like a King Arthur level bomb.

And Home video will not save this film. Home Video just does not do that anymore.

And even in the days when Home Video was big,the fact is that the Home Video performance of most movies mirroried that of it's theatrical release.
