Ang Lee is eyeing the sci-fi thriller Gemini Man, about an assassin taking on his younger clone

Two decades after the project was first pitched to Walt Disney Pictures, the “unfilmable” sci-fi actioner Gemini Man appears to once again have a shot at the big screen. The Hollywood Reporter brings word today that Academy Award winning director Ang Lee is now eyeing the Gemini Man director’s chair. The story involves an over-the-hill hitman forced to do battle with a younger clone of himself.

Looper?

From the same article:

While films like Rian Johnson‘s Looper have dealt with similar plotlines, one of the reasons Gemini Man has had a hard time getting off the ground is because it has always intended to set a single actor in both roles, making use of cutting-edge visual effects. That certainly suits Ang Lee, who has recently been working with FX-heavy projects like Life of Pi, while pushing technological boundaries with HFR on his recent Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.

I don't care for Looper but I am willing to give this movie a chance as long as they get a great actor in the lead role. They should aim high and try to get Daniel Day-Lewis on board. I want to see a 60 year old DDL acting against a 35 year old DDL.

This has BIG potential at the box office with Will Smith and the Disney marketing machine.

I don't think this is at Disney anymore.

"The project had long been set up at Disney but recently moved to David Ellison’s Skydance. Skydance had no comment."

Last Saturday, acclaimed Taiwanese director Ang Lee attended the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and talked about his latest production ‘Gemini Man’ during an interview session. Ang Lee reveals that he will continue to use high frame rate in this movie. In addition, he will use VR technology, although the movie itself is not a VR movie. Starring Will Smith, ‘Gemini Man’ tells the story of a retired assassin who faces off against himself, a clone who is 25 years younger.
