And Jangkrik Boss 2 is already at 1 million adm in 2.5 days! Wow. Is it possible to get 2m in 4 days?

Warkop DKI really is a strong brand and has a strong connection with Indonesians. But I don't think this will be bigger than the first one. I mean, Jangkrik Boss 1 is by far the biggest local movie of all time, so it will be hard to top that. Also, most people say it's not as funny as the first one. I personally think they're about the same. 50% jokes were laugh-out-loud funny and 50% fell flat. Anyway, it's exciting and interesting to see how big it's gonna be.

Just saw the movie, yeah some jokes made me really crack up, others bore me to death.

As for "1 million in 2.5 days", that's actually exactly what they accomplished last year with Part 1.

Let's recap a bit.

Part 1 opened on a non-holiday Thursday, 270k admissions.

Part 2 opened on a pre-holiday Thursday, 300k admissions. Exact number was 313,623 (as recorded by MURI, an OD record).

Part 1 Day 2 was a non-holiday Friday, 401k admissions. 2-day cume: 671k admissions.

Part 2 Day 2 was a holiday Friday, 530k admissions. 2-day cume: 843k admissions. As you can see, the leap to 1m is a very short one.

Part 1 Day 3 was a Saturday. By 5pm, Falcon Pictures (the studio) declared: 1m admissions in 2.5 days. Total day 3 admission was 535k, cume was 1,205k.

Part 1 Day 3 was a Saturday. Around 4pm, Falcon Pictures declared: 1m admissions in 2.5 days. Total admission not yet known. By noon tomorrow we should see the actual number.

My screening was attended by less than 50% capacity, probably only even 40%.

I suspect this will drop rather quickly. Monday will be a regular day for Part 2, while for Part 1 the big holiday was on Monday.

2 million admissions will be a breeze, but getting to 5 million might be a challenge. Part 1's 6.58m admissions is out of reach IMHO.

Additional historical data of Part 1:

  • Day 4 (Monday, the Eid holiday) was a monstrous 555k, cume was 1760k adm.
  • 2 million admissions in 5 days
  • 3 million admissions in 7 days
  • 4 million admissions in 10 days
  • 5 million admissions in 14 days
  • 6 million admissions in 22 days

Yup, JB2 achieved what JB1 did a year ago: 2 million admissions in 5 days.

The difference was, JB1 had a holiday boost (Monday the 5th day was Idul Adha) so that cumulative admission was 2,317,000.

I think this will continue to put JB2's pace significantly behind JB1.

Here's what JB1's first 11 days looked, compared to JB2's 5 days so far.

Only 50 more days until Thor: Ragnarok will be released. So it's on 25 October, one of the earliest countries to get it.

Aside from our customary Wednesday opening which put us naturally ahead of the US, we are also now regularly included in the now-regular Disney MCU early international release.

As far as I can remember, this started with Ultron.

  • Thor: Ragnarok - US 3 Nov, Indo 25 Oct
  • Spider-Man: Homecoming - US 7 Jul, Indo 5 Jul (different release pattern from Sony)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - US 5 May, Indo 26 Apr
  • Doctor Strange - US 4 Nov, Indo 26 Oct
  • Captain America: Civil War - US 6 May, Indo 27 Apr
  • Ant-Man - US 7 Jul, Indo 16 Jul (a rare case of Indonesia getting a late date for an MCU movie, because US frame fell on Eid holiday, the slot for local movies)
  • Avengers: Age of Ultron - US 1 May, Indo 22 Apr

After 8 days in play, Jangkrik Boss 2 seems to have stalled at 2,640,765 admissions, lagging 24% behind Jangkrik Boss 1.

On Tuesday, 5 days of play, the gap was 11%. It's going to get even bigger as I see the hype dwindling and screen count reduced.

Even 3 million would be a struggle, 4 million upwards is bye-bye.

How's IT doing here?

Doing OK but don't expect Annabelle numbers.

Well, don't expect any numbers at all actually since WB have not reported Indonesian grosses since Dunkirk.

Lucky for Annabelle 2, Indonesia was one of the top markets so we have our grosses continuously reported.

I don't think IT will do the same.

Huge number for Jangkrik Boss 2, but it is behind the first movie by a lot now. I do think it still has a chance to cross 4m admissions, and that would be the 4th biggest local movie of all time. Kinda disappointing actually because that's a huge drop from the first movie, and I thought #1 & #2 movie of all time would be dominated by Warkop DKI Reborn. They shouldn't have tried too hard on the jokes.

Curious about IT's performance here. I hope WB will give us its number at some point.

Jangkrik Boss cracked after 11 days, 4 days later than Jangkrik Boss 1, 28% behind in terms of pace. It's gonna get even as wider as the screen count drops sharply (currently, only 35 screens in Jakarta still show JB2)

Falcon has stopped giving regular updates, only big milestones now. To me, 3.5 mil is achievable, 4 mil .... dunno.

As for It, I think it will at least be at Dunkirk level. Cracking 1 mil admissions. Hopefully WB Indonesia will not delay the reporting like Dunkirk, though.

Can American Made do 1m admissions in Indonesia. Sure it opened well considering the genre but will it end up grossing decent number?

Unfortunately, I don't think so.

American Made opened much weaker than I expected $843k, 322k adm. (Jack Reacher 2, for example, opened $1.973m and finished at $3,043m).

Now, 2017's highest multiple was achieved by BATB, 2.69x. Even if American Made achieved that, it will only make 866k adm. And surely it will not get there, screen counts have dropped sharply.

As of last week, it stands at $1,513m, 577k adm, and I say it won't make much more.

@John Rambo

Sorry my friend, American Made dropped massively last weekend, getting nowhere near $2m. $1.7m is all it can hope for.

@catlover

Again, WB ID decided not to post their numbers, but I'm absolutely positive It was the #1 movie last week.

Indonesia movies as of 14 September 2017

Petak Umpet Minako - 113.587

Jembatan Pensil - 16.883

Tommi n Jerri - 40.806

Warkop DKI Reborn:… - 3.528.896

Nyai Ahmad Dahlan - 171.112

Jangkrik Boss 2 only passed 3.5m admissions, I don't think it will get to 4 million. This weekend is basically last chance, come Wednesday the exhibitors know that it's best to maximize Kingsman 2 and Ninjago.

Note: at the same juncture (15 days in play) Jangkrik Boss 1 was at 5.151m, so Jangkrik Boss 2 is now a full 31% behind.

So, we have IT's numbers now.

As I said, very good but not Annabelle good.

IT opened to an absolutely solid $2.7m, that's just over 1m admissions! (Annabelle 2 did $3.9m and legged out devilishly to 2.51x).

IT is now positioned for an over/under $5m finish. Might be able to stay in the yearly Top 15 in the end.
