Spot on Sir, Cruise has always been a solid box office draw in Indonesia.

However, I still don't think The Mummy will get anywhere near the latest entries in the FF series. The just seem to operate on an entirely different level.

A new MI movie, however, might be in the 8-10m range.

Tom Cruise Indonesian grosses:

The Mummy - 4.4m (1.67m adm)

Jack Reacher 2 - 3.04m (1.17m adm)

MI Rogue Nation - 8m (3.25m adm)

Edge of Tomorrow - 5.3m (1.88m adm)

Oblivion - 3.27m (1.13m adm)

Jack Reacher - 2.39m (773k adm)

MI Ghost Protocol - 6.14m (2.51m adm)

Knight and Day - 1.62m (666k adm)

Valkyrie - 494k

MI 3 - 2.32m

War of the Worlds - 1.22m

Collateral - 353k

MI 2 - 1.4m

MI - 1.99m

Fast and Furious:

8 - 19.33m

7 - 16.76m

6 - 9.13m

5 - 3.16m

4 - 2.29m

3 - 958k

2 - 656k

3 -

Hmm your right :) but i felt that if this flick had great promotions, holiday advantage coupled with Positive WoM then it might have grossed close to FF7 OW atleast on its OW!

Hi all,

I'm glad that all of you started this thread - as I'm recently researching into the Indonesian Box Office.

Would you all have a list of the all time highest box office gross for international films in Indonesia?

In the all time top 10? No, a combination of number of screens and ticket price.

Anyway, Transformers 5 is set for a monster opening as I expected.

Booking screens look like this now for Wednesday night show.

2017 looks to be another good year for Hollywood movies in Indonesia.

In 2016 I managed to calculate at least $150 million gross for Hollywood wide-release movies in Indonesia. This number is not in any way final, as it still missing major films such as X-Men Apocalypse, Alice Through the Looking Glass, the final gross of Rogue One, etc.

Let's say it's still missing 25 million, bringing the total to 175 million.

In 2017, a much-better reported year than 2016, the same category of Hollywood movies has grossed more than 103 million. Looks set to surpass 2016.

Transformers: The Last Knight will have a monster opening tomorrow, June 21. The kids are off school so that will help a lot.

Next frame would be during Eid holidays, as is the custom, local movies will prevail and dominate.

After that, another huge opening awaits, Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 5.

Despicable Me 3, evacuated from its original slot during Eid, will then follow on July 12.

War of the Planet of the Apes, Dunkirk and Valerian are all heavily advertised so will definitely be next on the agenda.

Apes is set for end of July slot, probably alongside Emoji Movie, probably on July 26.

Dunkirk and Valerian may stay on their default July 19 slot. Or one of them may be moved to the first weekend of August slot, as The Dark Tower is not that popular here.

And AFTER all of that (phew), we still have the sure-to-be-huge-as-well opening of Annabelle: Creation, possibly THE supernatural horror event of the year.

Jolly good time for Indonesian exhibitors, as even US clunkers such as King Arthur succeeded here.

Updated Indonesian BO numbers for Hollywood 2017 wide releases (new numbers are in red).

As I expected, The Mummy rules in its second weekend because of no new competition.

Also, Wonder Woman is set to finish in the 8.0-8.5m range as I predicted. It has now surpassed GOTG2.

I saw Transformers 5 on its opening day, June 21. Well, saw maybe 50% of it, it was soooo hard to stay awake hahahaha. The screening was totally sold out, indicating how big this franchise still is in Indonesia.

But by Sunday it has to share screens with 4 local movies for the Eid holiday period. Therefore exhibitors are now giving screens as many as possible for Transformers 5. It is not uncommon for a 6-screen multiplex giving it all to Transformers.

  1. The Fate of the Furious (aka The Fast and Furious 8 in Indonesia) - $19,329,335 - roughly 7,372,761 admissions, an Indonesian all-time record

How big do you think Transformers 5 is going to be? At first I thought it would reach $10m easily. But with competitions from local movies, then Spider-Man in July (which is gonna be huge for sure), and bad WOM (I also fell asleep for like half of the movie lol), I'm not so sure anymore.

Lower than Mummy/GOTG2.

It has Wed-Sat to make the most money possible, Sun onwards screen count will drop sharply.

And as you said, by July 5 it's already Spider-Man's time. And Despicable Me 3 a week after that.

It simply has no room to breathe.

Transformers 5:

Opening day (Wed) was 1.1m, roughly 419k adm, a record for Paramount.

By Thu it is already 2.3m, around 877k adm.

Under normal circumstances this looks like a potential 6m opener, however it will have its screens reduced sharply by Sunday.

So we'll see.

Okay, so I was wrong about Transformers: The Last Knight.

Paramount Indonesia's staff must all be in their long holidays, therefore, Indonesia's opening weekend numbers were not reported in the Global Top 10 markets.

But when the numbers do come out ......

5-day OW: $7.13m, roughly 2.7m admissions!

A truly monstrous OW, second only this year to F8 ($8.5m).

And so we have the updated numbers:

  1. The Fate of the Furious (aka The Fast and Furious 8 in Indonesia) - $19,329,335 - roughly 7,372,761 admissions, an Indonesian all-time record
  2. Beauty and the Beast - $9,122,353 - roughly 3,479,526 admissions
  3. Wonder Woman - $8,200,000 - roughly 3,127,714 admissions (not updated)
  4. The Mummy - $7,693,463 - roughly 2,934,507 admissions
  5. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 - $7,683,449 - roughly 2,930,687 admissions
  6. Transformers: The Last Knight - $7,130,483 - roughly 2,719,770 admissions
  7. Logan (aka Logan: The Wolverine in Indonesian posters) - $6,195,583 - roughly 2,363,172 admissions
  8. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter - $6,090,864 - roughly 2,323,230 admissions
  9. Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (Salazar's Revenge in Indonesia) - $6,072,112 - roughly 2,316,077 admissions

With a $7.3m opening weekend, and about 9 days of clear sailing before Spider-Man arrives, Transformers 5 has a pretty good chance of surpassing Transformers 4's gross of 12.42m.

These days in Indonesia you have no choice: either the 4 local Eid movies, or Transformers 5. With the local movies underperforming, it is probable that more screens will be given to Transformers 5 quietly by the exhibitors.

The 4 Eid movies collectively so far only nabbed 1.8m admissions, a far cry compared to last year's tally of 4m+ admissions.

Jailangkung - 864.290

Surat Kecil untuk Tuhan - 306.086

Insya Allah Sah - 292.344

Sweet 20 - 340.079

I thought TF5's opening was gonna be lower than that. Looks like my initial prediction was right about crossing $10m. I'm still thinking (and hoping) it won't pass TF4.

The local movies are kinda underwhelming, box office-wise. Jailangkung did a little bit lower than I thought, but as expected it will clear 1 million admission easily, and be the biggest one out of the four. Too bad because it's an awful movie. I can't with bad horror movies dominating this year.

I also expected Surat Kecil untuk Tuhan to be much bigger than that, considering the promo that it's getting. Sweet 20 was actually a surprise for me. I thought it would be the least attended. Now I hope it gets more than 1 million admission, because it's by far the best movie out of four. I would say it's one of the best local movies this year. Couldn't stop laughing from start to finish.

I thought the order would be SKUT - Jailangkung - IAS - Sweet 20.

Massive disappointment for the heavily promoted SKUT, and nice surprise for Sweet 20. Don't think it will hit 1m admissions though, the pace is not there.

As for Jailangkung, it is tracking eerily similar to Danur: 200k in 2 days, 400k in 3 days, 600k in 4 days, 800k in 5 days, breaking 1m in 6 days.

I doubt it will have Danur's legs however, as presales for Spider-Man: Homecoming starts today and is sure to be huge, eating up valuable screen allocation.

Considering that Danur did it its run on a normal weekend (no holiday boost) makes it all the more impressive, box office wise.

Yearly pace of Indonesian movies is now lagging slightly behind 2016, thanks to May and June not hitting its stride. Let's see what Jangkrik Boss 2 can do to put 2017 back on track.

Hollywood movies has now grossed more than $115m, on course to beat 2016 numbers.

Jailangkung has been marketed as "Lebaran movie" from months ago. And the hype around me felt huge compared to other movies. And people here love horror movies, so I thought it would already be at 1 million in 5 days, instead of 800k. 5 days or 6 days are not that much different though lol.

TF5 will surely cross $10m even with a really bad WOM. I wonder how many more $10m+ movies we will see this year. Maybe Spidey, Justice League and Star Wars ?

TF5 gotta be a huge reason on why the local movies didn't do as well as last year. Wasn't last year big Hollywood release only The Legend of Tarzan ?
