newbie BO buff
I'm really wondering how big Spidey HC's OW will be when exhibitors go to this extent: One location, five theaters, all SHC.

Other notables reported was Wonder Woman, rising to $8.6m (3.28m adm). Don't have the numbers for TF5 second weekend yet, will wait for that before updating the chart. newbie BO buff
Fellow Indonesians (especially), while we wait for last weekend's complete BO numbers ... A coveted milestone for local movies is "breaking 1 million admissions". True enough, with current ticket prices, this level of admission could bring up to IDR 15.75 billion to the studio(s). Enough for a typical "big-budget" Indonesian production to make healthy profit from its theatrical run only. Usually we get 2-3 of these blockbusters per year. Sometimes we get abnormally high number: 6 in 2009. And of course, in 2016 there was 10 of them. Crazy! How many do you think we will get this year? We have 3 so far: Danur, Jailangkung (2 supernatural horror movies on top! only in Indonesia!) and Surga Yang Tak Dirindukan 2. To me, next candidates would be: Jangkrik Boss 2 (duh), Ayat-ayat Cinta 2, and Pemuja Setan. So, 6 at least. Who knows maybe Raditya and Ernest will luck out again with their offerings later this year to bring the tally up.
Edison Cheam
Does anyone know how bollywood hit movie, "Dangal", performed at Indonesian box office (or if it did screened in Indonesia at all)? But then I realized 2017 has a lot of movies in the middle (500k - 1m adm) which 2016 lacked of. Very good for Indonesian film industry. This makes me wonder what happened in 2016 that made the total admission doubled the year before. Also, wow at Jailangkung. It's actually having good legs despite being an awful movie. Interesting question. What happened in 2016? To begin with, 2015 was not a weak year. It had three 1m-admission blockbusters, quite standard. Total admission number was 16.2m. Previous years data: 2014 = 15.2m 2013 = 15.5m 2012 = 15.7m 2011 = 16.2m 2010 = 16.8m 2009 = 25m 2008 = 30m (note: these numbers vary slightly between different sources ) But yeah, 2015 was pretty OK considering the trend. So let's recap 2016. January: it started pretty bad actually for 2016, only 507k adm, behind 2015 at 51% February until June: this is where 2016 started to build the lead. Not a single blockbuster in 2015, but 2016 went nuts with London Love Story, Casino Kings 2, Ada Apa Dengan Cinta? 2, My Stupid Boss and Rudy Habibie. Those 5 movies collective nabbed 11.69 adm (!) and shot 2016 into a massive lead. June 2015 was a scant 4.56m adm, June 2016 a massive 14.79m adm. July: this was the Eid frame. 2015 scored 2 blockbusters, but the other 2 Eid movies underperformed. August until December: 2015 had only one other blockbuster - Single, but 2016 had 3. And one of them was Jangkrik Boss 1 which grabbed 6.858m admissions, so that's history written right there.

newbie BO buff
Updated admission numbers for Eid movies: Jailangkung - 2,173,092 Sweet 20 - 887,519 Insya Allah Sah - 729,645 Surat Kecil Untuk Tuhan - 669,673 Collectively they grabbed 4.45m admissions, surpassiong 2016's quartet of Eid movies which grabbed 4.3m. Outstanding performance.

Yes Dangal was screened in Indonesia, I saw it here. But I think in Jakarta it was only in two theaters. I didn't check other cities though. So it's a limited release. But it was screened for months. I remember seeing the list of movies and thinking "Dangal is still playing?". So I'm guessing it did really well in that limited release. How big did FF7, Age of Ultron, Civil War and BvS open? About Indonesian movies with 1m admission, I agree with you, this year we will have 6 at least. And maybe 1 or 2 surprises from, like you said, Raditya or Ernest, or others. Perhaps The Doll 2? I mean, horror movies are on a roll this year. The first movie did pretty well. Btw, it's pretty interesting that 2008 and 2009 were huge for local movies, and then the total admission number went down significantly in 2010. But it was actually pretty stable from 2010 to 2015, before it exploded to 2008 level again in 2016. I heard people saying about this 8-year cycle, since 2000, 2008, and 2016 are important years for Indonesian movies (Petualangan Sherina, the movie that started it all, was released in 2000). Maybe it's just a coincidence, but like I said, it's really interesting.

Furious 7 = $6.62m Ultron = $6.55m BVS = $7.73m no data for Civil War. ..... but we can guesstimate from its estimated final gross, $15m. Civil War's OW should be aroung$7.0-7.5m. Considering that Philippines did $7.7m, Thailand $6.3m and Malaysia $5.1m, that looks just about right. Damn, I have to update that OW chart. As for 2017 local movies, by my quick calculation we will hit at least 29.6m admissions. It's definitely not going back to 2010-2015 level. I'm excited about the OW (and to see the movie itself of course). I also hope Sweet 20 are not losing too many screens. Just please take the screens from TF5, and the other local movies instead. It's already at 620k adm and deserves 1m adm. It's gonna be very hard to get 1m, but the WOM is really good, so who knows. Your wish is almost granted. Sweet 20 and Jailangkung (at 2,303,702 adm) are the only two movies busy bragging their numbers now. MD Pictures (Insya Allah Sah) has switched their focus to building hype for Ayat-ayat Cinta 2, coming in December. Falcon Pictures (Surat Kecil Untuk Tuhan) has been quiet from the very beginning, perhaps acknowledging defeat.
