I think the main reason is create hype and also in some case take advantage of local holidays, it's why Bond is usually release in the UK and other markets a week or two earlier. Illumination released Pets and Sing earlier than the US as well in some markets and Disney released Zootopia a month earlier too in many places which is very rare for Disney.

Ant-Man and Guardians 1 are the only Marvel films in recent years to not get early release although those were day and date.

This Monday is May Day, which is a holiday over here in Socialist Europe. It's a no brainer to open a big movie this weekend and take advantage of that.

That's an increase from true Friday. Was expecting this to collapse after the Thursday previews beat Friday's gross.

Will beat Monsoon Weeding to become India's largest grosser in the US, unless this is some kind of "one weekend and out" release deal.

That gives BAHB2 a good shot to go over The Circle. Even with a 40% Sun drop it should go over 10m.

Must be the first time a Bollywood film has cracked the top three. I suspect it won't happen again for a long time. The PTA must be insane.

Hate to keep harping on this but it could have done about another 750K or maybe even a million more if it would have been released wide in Canada.  They fucked that up really badly.

$30-40 tickets are rather helpful

Absolutely.  But they knew the audience would pay for it.  That could have backfired on them.  They analyzed the market, took the gamble and it paid off.
