I'm honestly shocked that something like Arrival wasn't PG.  outside of them saying "fuck" ONCE, there's nothing else bad in it.  Really, the one "fuck" rule is complete bullshit.

What purpose would it being PG serve though? That implies it's a movie aimed at a family audience, and there's nothing kid friendly about Arrival even if it isn't "inappropriate" for them.

Wonder if Circle can beat Live By Night's TC loss record. WOM is toxic and next week's drop is not going to be pretty.

Nah. Midsize theaters would get rid of Unforgettable, The Promise, Born in China, Gifted, Phoenix Forgotten, Smurfs, and probably Going in Style before getting rid of The Circle. Even if GOTG takes up 3-4 screens and Lionsgate expands Latin Lover, the May 12 releases are only taking 4 screens max. This is a plausible scenario two weeks from now at a 12 screener:

GOTG

GOTG

GOTG

Snatched

King Arthur

Lowriders

Latin Lover

F8

BATB

Boss Baby

Circle

Going in Style/Gifted/Another screen for one of the new releases or GOTG

$30-40 tickets are rather helpful

I wonder if it had been released with regular priced tickets if the OW would have maybe half of that. Still a massive success.

Hate to keep harping on this but it could have done about another 750K or maybe even a million more if it would have been released wide in Canada.  They fucked that up really badly.

Does Canada have a bigger Indian population per capita compared to the US?

So it came in exactly on tracking then. Was expecting 120M or so after the great first 2 days. If it plays like other recent Marvel May openers, the finishing range would be 800-900M currently, depending as always on China and whether that is a breakout market.

Exhibitor Relations‏ @ERCboxoffice
Bollywood gone bonkers. Great India Films' BAAHUBALI 2: THE CONCLUSION blasted off with $10.1M in just 425 theaters this weekend.

Exhibitor Relations‏ @ERCboxoffice

A24's FREE FIRE is in Free Fall Mode--dropping -71% in its second round-- $287k, $1.7M total.

I have literally been harping on and on in our WhatsApp group that Bahubali would break out and even I didn't envision the ridiculous numbers it is putting up.

it just had 2 consecutive 100 Crore days in India when no movie before it has even had a 100 Crore opening weekend.

I think this is a good example of how the PG rating has been so neglected its meaning has been corrupted and altered. A PG doesn't imply anything other than there's not a lot of inappropriate content. HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER is PG. THE RIGHT STUFF is PG. Neither of those were "aimed at a family audience". But nowadays since everything is PG-13 the assumption is that PG should just be for kiddies.

I suspect it would even bigger OS, not just India if they hadn't released it in the same weekend as GOTG Vol 2 as they would have gotten more screens.

The Circle looks to have toxic WOM at least from RT and Cinemascore so it's PTA might very well plummet next w/e (and films will already be taking a hit from GOTG).  Two weeks from now I expect it to be below Going In Style, Smurfs and Gifted.

The reason GOTG2 didn't release in India this weekend was to avoid Bahubali 2. Else the Marvel movies release in India as well to take advantage of May Day.

Eh.

Next weekend: 3.7M

May 12: 1.7M

I don't see how those three films will stay above The Circle two weeks from now.
