AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR | 1369.5 M overseas ● 2048.4 M worldwide

Neither Ultron nor Civil War opened simultaneously in all countries or even as many as IW is opening to which is why MCU movies are never in the top worldwide openings consideration coz they always stagger their releases. This will be the first time a big MCU movie is releasing in almost all countries at the same time.

If it had opened in China this week too then it would have definitely broken the record easily but without China ita gonna be a bit of a stretch.

And what IW will lose in Europe it will make up in Asia and LA. In SK for example it will probably make more in the opening weekend than what TFA did in its entire run

You are right :)

Ultron opened to $223.4m OS everywhere excepting China and Russia (BOM Figures). There are not info for every country for Civil War.

The data you say about SK nearly happened with Ultron:

Ultron OW in SK: $23.1m

TFA total in SK: $24.1m

On the other side, you have a similar example in Germany with a similar size:

Ultron total in Germany: $31.2m

TFA OW in Germany: $27.2m

What is enormous in Europe is average in Asia+LA, and viceversa. With a bit worse ER than in 2015 I find difficult IW can manage a TFA opening OS. Never say never, but I find it tough. Anyway, it will be a really exciting weekend to follow.

People forget that while RO and TLJ are not as huge overseas, TFA was a gigantic grosser overseas and did so without a massive Chinese bump.

Sure. The debate has started since IW will probably need what TFA did on the OW to beat the WW OW (asuming $260m OW DOM).

Extra note, TFA also did "poorly" in SK, malaysia, india, taiwan and many other asian countries, TFA didn't even made half of what AoU made in 2015, suggesting not china alone but a general asian trend except Japan.

Opposite of that, European and Japan has shown relatively unfazed by superhero craze, AoU and TA both, find themselves in a very difficult position to match TFA's success, again, not even reaching half....

Give or take of all the geographical preferences, and ironically, with china is not in the opening basket in both case, making a TFA's opening be a realistic goal....

http://deadline.com/2018/04/avengers-infinity-war-marvel-disney-global-box-office-preview-1202375350/

Tracking has it ranging from $216 million-$235 million, which on the high end would be the second-best domestic start of all time beating Star Wars: The Last Jedi($220M). Some believe the movie has the power to get to $275M, an opening that would best Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ all-time record ($247.9M) by 11%. Still, even if this film sinks to the high-$100Ms, which no one is really expecting, Marvel’s platinum records haven’t tarnished.

As for overseas, industry sources are pegging the bow from $256M-$263M with some also seeing it reach $275M. Outside the $275M predictions, the domestic and international ranges equal a global bow from $472M-$498M — $500M-plus does not appear out of the question. If it hits the low end of that worldwide range, it would rank as No. 5 all time; on the high end, it lands at No. 4. We’ll gauge the bigger predictions as play starts to roll.

That would be around what we’ve been predicting too.

And to think it would completely obliterate the WW record had China also get date-and-day release. Crazy.

If it can manage $170-180M for OW in China, I can’t imagine WOM could be that bad to the point it can’t make a minimum of $250M total.

OS-China opening let’s say $260M (about the middle of DHD predicted range). Worst case scenario IMO is 2.5x for a 650M total.

For me, I think over 900M is a pretty safe bet at the moment.

No unless really bad ER.

ER is a bit worse than in 2015. The last time I checked it (maybe 3 weeks ago), AoU would had done today about 920-925. IW has few excuses to not match that amount. The target should be, at least, the billion.
