HELLBOY | April 12 2019 | David Harbour

Recommended Posts

Saw the trailer a few minutes ago. Put aside that the trailer made the impression that they're going to go full comic relief on the whole movie, I simply do not like the look of the new Hellboy. I cannot help it but my inner eye shifts to something like this

possessed_witch.jpg

whenever he shows his mug. They somehow managed to make him look like a mix between a hobo and a generic Zombie dude,

not the icon I knew to be portrayed by Ron Pearlman.

Easy. As we can see above, Big Ron didn't need makeup at all, they just painted his face red. :)

With the new guy - they had to sculpt the whole demon-face from scratch, so they went for it.

Haha, nicely put. :) I indeed suspect whats putting me of is that Harbour is practically unrecognisable under his make-up, where Pearlmans' Hellboy was always clearly Pearlman. This plus the mouth and the eyes. Both just look too artificial / unnatural to me. (hoo boy, I claim something to look unnatural in a movie about a demon saviour from hell) Well, there will always be a second trailer, so the last word has not yet been spoken. But it's a bad first impression, and these are hard to overcome.
