You know, when I look over films from this period I have seen, it really feels like 1988 is my kick off point for watching a decent number of high profile films:

from BOM's top 50 grossers of 1993:    Seen about 23 that I recall

from BOM's top 50 grossers of 1992:    Seen about 22 that I recall

from BOM's top 50 grossers of 1991:    Seen about 19 that I recall

from BOM's top 50 grossers of 1990:    Seen about 22 that I recall

from BOM's top 50 grossers of 1989:    Seen about 20 that I recall

from BOM's top 50 grossers of 1988:    Seen about 23 that I recall

from BOM's top 50 grossers of 1987:    Seen about 12 that I recall

from BOM's top 50 grossers of 1986:    Seen about 10 that I recall

from BOM's top 50 grossers of 1985:    Seen about 17 that I recall

from BOM's top 50 grossers of 1984:    Seen about 11 that I recall

from BOM's top 50 grossers of 1983:    Seen about 7 that I recall

from BOM's top 50 grossers of 1982:    Seen about 9 that I recall

Of course there is a whole bunch of random stuff I will have seen without remembering, or that did not make any money theatrically too.

I should also one day work on getting those numbers up closer to 50 than they are. Like with more recent years:

from BOM's top 50 grossers of 2015:    Seen 40

from BOM's top 50 grossers of 2016:    Seen 42

I like what you're saying even if I haven't seen 3/4 of those you've mentioned.
True great american film is art that reaches and speaks beyond/over the mexican wall.

Now I know 95% of today's generation can't stand Hulk Hogan because of this racist rant of his from a couple of years ago, but when he was on top, he was on top and here he is as "Thunder Lips" in ROCKY III..

Don't even think I've seen 25 films from 1987. Even weirder since I've seen more from 1986 and 1988. Here's the 21 I've seen so far (not an actual ranking). Any suggestions?

Spoiler
  • Raising Arizona
  • Project A, Part II
  • The Princess Bride
  • Full Metal Jacket
  • Broadcast News
  • Moonstruck
  • Wall Street
  • Good Morning, Vietnam
  • Three Men & A Baby
  • Babette's Feast
  • The Untouchables
  • Fatal Attraction

  • Planes, Trains and Automobiles
  • The Running Man
  • Spaceballs
  • *batteries not included
  • Can't Buy Me Love
  • Harry & the Hendersons
  • The Chipmunk Adventure
  • The Brave Little Toaster

I've seen parts of Adventures in Babysitting and Overboard, but not their entirety.

In honor of the late, great Powers Boothe, everyone should find a way to watch EXTREME PREJUDICE.

A great trifecta would be Extreme Prejudice, Tombstone and Frailty.
