The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

Mother! has far.more showings than AA at the theaters they are both at in Northern VA/DC. 13 showings vs 7 at my usual theater. This could be really down to the wire on which one comes out ahead.

That won't matter when every Mother showing is nearly empty because everyone is going to see IT instead.

Comparing mother to American Assassin tickets pre booked at by local cinema, both are rated 18 in the UK and released today. AA has 6 screenings and has sold 106 tickets, mother! Has eight screenings and has sold 259.

If mother! follows Life (with its terrible drops) $30m DOM it'd be ok..I have no clue why yall are STILL acting like this is Valerian with a $200m budget

We're not but we're sure the media desperate to jump on the opportunity to bash Jennifer Lawrence will. They prematurely labeled her The Next Big Star, after all.

I think it'll have a similar multiplier to Noah (which failed to cross 2.4x), except this film sounds like it's going to be even more divisive than that was.

Was anyone really passionate about Noah though? mother! has a lot of passionate fans (and haters).

The movie certainly got a ton of flack for the weird/blasphemous creative choices Aronofsky made with the story (the rock monsters that looked liked they stepped out of a Middle Earth movie, turning Noah into a crazed would-be baby killer) but it also got praised in a handful of corners for trying something different with such a well-told tale. But then that movie was sold as a conventional studio blockbuster and not an arthouse flick, which can't be said of mother!

That Princess thing AMC is running for the next five weeks is going to piss theater owners off greatly.
