The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

Pulse ca. three hours ago (always 9:05-9:19 EST):

Hunter Killer: 12/15 minutes – that's of course far behind e.g. The Equalizer 2, Mile 22 or Peppermint, it's on par with El Royale (7.1M OW) which had 11/15 minutes same day and daytime; but it still has time, maybe the focus so far was very much on Halloween
Indivisible: 1/15
Bohemian Rhapsody: 11/15 - nice as always when I looked for it at Pulse and I'm not too surprised that the reviews are mixed because the first reactions were similar, I just hope that the crowd will like it
FB 2: 9/15

And Pulse one hour ago (always 10:35-10:49 EST):

Hunter Killer: 19/15 minutes – El Royale had 25/15 same day and time of the day
Indivisible: 5/15

Bohemian Rhapsody: 16/15
FB 2: 15/15 - that's pretty good (I think)

PS: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms: Boxoffice.com has it at 21/80M. This film is a lucky bag for me.

Suspiria is opening in 2 theaters this weekend (one in LA, one in NY). Curious what the PTA will be like given how little buzz there is for it (feels like it died after it premiered at the Venice Film Festival tbh), although the LA theater is having a Q&A with Guadagnino, Johnson, and Swinton that's gonna inflate the gross.

That doesn't look good for Fantastic Beasts. Especially with the marketing so far focusing on aspects of the story that appeal more to die-hard Potter fans. If they are not hyped enough to be rushing to buy tickets in advance, I don't think casual moviegoers will either.

That seems like an extreme expansion, especially when there hasn't been much promotion for it in general (even though it had a great launch last weekend in 4 theaters, albeit helped by Q&As). Hopefully the PTA won't be too bad (it's barely sold anything at my theater for the weekend).

Pulse ca. three hours ago (always 8:05-8:19 EST):

Hunter Killer: 11/15 minutes – no improvement compared to yesterday, not good at all
Bohemian Rhapsody: 11/15
FB 2: 6/15

And Pulse ca. one hour ago (always 10:20-10:34 EST):

Hunter Killer: 24/15 minutes – 50% over yesterday, still very muted, ca. the half of Peppermint
Indivisible: 4/15 – also no improvement compared to yesterday

Bohemian Rhapsody: 21/15
FB 2: 9/15

I get some ads. Empty weekend, too many other projects in the space to push for awards contention. You might as well grab the cash you can and get out

Wow, that's a lot. It's not playing anywhere in my area, which isn't too surprising considering the one theater that got Eighth Grade pushed it to reduced showtimes in the second week then dumped it afterwards.

At my nearby art house, FREE SOLO is overshadowing so much it isn’t funny. The Saturday matinee has sold more than all of MID90s’ shows combined.
