I think y'all are being a little too confident about the preview record. If you look at the data @Porthos and others have provided, its far from a lock (I might actually bet against at this point, but its close). Presales are insane yes, but that's for the whole OW, not just Thursday.

The Force Awakens @ $57 million. For comparison, Infinity War was $39m and 2nd place is Last Jedi @ $45m.

I just think DP/DP2 is just too entrenched as Deadpool/Deadpool 2 for Detective Pikachu to be shortened as "DP".

EG will easily take the previews record imo, if anything being the part 2 of a two part story creates an unusual rush factor to see the movie on opening night. As we saw how Deathly Hallows increased from 24M previews (DH1) to 43.5M (DH2) which is still mind-boggling to me that DH2 made 43.5M from previews that started on 12AM..  it's a lot more impressive than anything SW has done imo.

 

so I'm thinking EG previews will be 60M-70M.

Not to mention that the main star in BOTH films is the same actor  Ive been sticking either with Pika Pika or Pikachu. Although Deadpool isn't even that hard to type out, its had two films already and on these forums that's the abbreviation we gave it. I am sure if Pikachu came out before it, it would be the other way around

If previews break the record AND true Friday goes up 10mil, we'd be looking at almost 140 for Friday. including prev. From there if it only matches IW's Sat/Sun it gets to almost 290. If it matches their % then we get 108mil Sat, 90mil Sun For a weekend of 338mil.

I think Fri/Sat will indeed be the spots where it will really surge, even Sunday will probably be well over IW. I'm not saying Thursday can't beat the record, but people shouldn't be disappointed if it "only" does 55 million or something like that.
