Vietnam, small market and Pika was only a limited screening today.

Domestic may surprise through who knows?

Ah okay. Yeah hard to base box office with a country that small

also endgame is by far the biggest movie ever there I heard

but if you basing projection on quality of the film and I completely understand

The hustle has 11% on rotten tomatoes lol

I think I posted about it before but someone I know saw both Hustle and Poms and said the latter was better

It's pretty telling that The Hustle's trailer has only one actual laugh in it (when Rebel Wilson emerges from the trash in that shiny black dress). It'll likely die a very quick death once Mother's Day passes.

I'm pretty certain that every opener this weekend, but Pikachu, is dropped down to 1/2 its theaters or more by its 4th weekend...none of these opening movies had good trailers, and it seems none of them are appeasing critics...we'll see if the 2 obvious Mother's Day openers (Poms and Hustle) can even appease moms, or even get them in seats to be appeased...

Back then I counted the Lego Movie 2 at 5:50-6:04 EST and it were 13/15 minutes. So I also counted Pika at that time and it was by far leading with 38/15 minutes, a promising start.

Pulse today 8:50-9:04 EST:

Pika: 210/15 – yesterday it were 111/15, up 89%; HtTYD 3 had at that time 227/15, Dumbo 167/15, The Lego Movie2 110/15, The Grinch 184/15, Alita (its release day) 192/15, Shazam! 175/15.
The Hustle: 26/15 – yesterday 19/15; the comparison-films had a big gap at that time and therefore aren't very helpful: Long Shot had 26/15 and What Men Want 87/15.
Poms: 21/15 – yesterday 10/15
Tolkien: 6/10 – yesterday 3/10

John Wick 3: 13/15 – yesterday 14/15
Aladdin: 7/15 – yesterday 9/15
GKotM: 3/15

And Pulse 11:04-11:19 EST (15 minutes too late):

Pika: 488/15 – yesterday 192/15, up 154%, that jump came late but as mentioned before in this thread, it was a pleasure to count it today (and at 10:20 EST I looked shortly at Pulse and Pika sold ca. 24 tickets per 1 minute, would mean 360/15, even that would have been very ok); for comparison: HtTYD3 had 325/15 at that time (means 10:50-11:04 EST), Dumbo 223/15, The Lego Movie2 160/15, The Grinch 294/15, Alita 322/15, Shazam! 322/15 (it was randomly the same number).
The Hustle: 60/15 – yesterday 34/15; not totally bad but also not good. Long Shot had 42/15 at that time, What Men Want had 117/15. Today probably the reviews can be blamed. Normally I would guess that the walk ups will help but probably not if the reviews stay that unexpected bad.
Poms: 33/15 – yesterday 21/15
Tolkien: 15/15 – yesterday 9/15

John Wick 3: 23/15 – yesterday 20/15
Aladdin: 17/15 – yesterday 4/15
GKotM: 7/15

Gonna do a quick update for the theatres in Victoria I would usually track when I live down there.

Pika is at 1 sellout for tonight (81/81), 160 tickets total. Not sure how big walk-ups can possibly be because I do not think this theatre is able to add any more screenings, but I'll do another update this evening. Some comps for comparison: note, these are for FINAL numbers for the movies I'm comparing Pika with, so DP is only going to get better from here, since first shows don't start for another 6 hours.

69% Crimes of Grindelwald (6.3M previews)

101% Bohemian Rhapsody (3.95M previews)

485% Grinch (10.6M previews)

145% Glass (5.38M previews)

34% Captain Marvel (7M previews)

107% Shazam (6.3M previews)

With the exception of Bohemian Rhapsody (which did INSANELY well at this theatre... it sold out shows there for months on end) this pretty much locks 6M. And considering these are based off of final numbers for each of the above movies, whereas even the earliest shows of Pika don't start for nearly 6 hours, these numbers will only go up. If this theatre is anything to go by, I'd say 7-8M+ is going to happen.

Meanwhile, Tolkein at this theatre isn't doing too shabby either. 24 tickets sold for 7:15 PM tonight. I don't have any comps for this, because similar "semi-wide releases" at this theatre don't usually get Thursday previews. Only thing I can find is Bad Times at the El Royale, which ended with 46 tickets, a number I could see Tolkein matching.

Holy fuck Pikachu today. :ohmygod: Tracking this movie has been such a pleasure seeing it go up and up has been incredible. In total today Detective Pikachu sold a whopping 39 tickets which is exactly what it needed for tomorrow, John Wick sold 6 tickets and hit 100, and Aladdin had another day selling 0 tickets which is...worrisome.

First count of today, only Thursdays-

Aladdin-69, 7 screenings (2 IMAX, 2 3D, 2 Regular+Fan Screening)

John Wick-101 (+1), 4 screenings (2 IMAX, 2 Regular) Final Week

I don't really understand Godzilla tracking. The movie looks insane. Although I haven't seen much marketing for it so who knows.

A drop-off from the previous Godzilla movie was a given considering the rather meh reception it got. I think it opens in the same area Kong: Skull Island did, personally.

Yeah but I think we've seen more Godzilla in the trailer for this than the previous movie's entire runtime.
