Not really sure what to use as a comp for this film, since as I understand it horror isn't that pre-sale heavy.  Maybe.  For now, gonna throw in Detective Pikachu since it's the only film that I have info on that had light pre-sales this far out.  I'll add back in more films closer to release.

No update tonight.  My App's acting whack.  It's showing the seat counts as off (it's showing there's more seats than they already are).  I'm too over it to deal with it tonight.  Will check back for tomorrow.

Gonna be late sets this week again, but in holdover news, it's obvious that The Kitchen and Brian Banks are not gonna be fully protected this weekend...of the one theater in my metro that has set, an 11 (which booked every new wide movie last weekend), they have set The Kitchen with only 2 showings Friday and Brian Banks with only 1...so they are both sharing a screen with Yesterday (who gets the other showings)...we'll see if that's a trend at small and midsize places...

There's no tickets sold for Angry Birds 2 at the big theater at 1 PM.

Why?

Because the kids went back to school yesterday 🤣

Ok , I'm blind, there's quite a few sold on the fringes...

1st local - Cinemark - is now set, and after only preselling TWO of the openers (Dora and Scary Stories), they decided to go all in and put up a set like throwing darts...here's the set...

NEW

Dora (1 - 5 showings - above average screen)

Scary Stories (1 - 5 showings - smallest size screen)

The Art of Racing In The Rain (1 - 5 showings - smallest size screen)

The Kitchen (1 - 5 showings - above average screen - this surprises me, b/c they weren't even preselling this)

Manmadhudu 2/Nerkonda Paarvai (1 split - 2 showings each - smallest size screen)

Kurukshetra (.25 - 1 showing - on H&S smallest size)

Returning

H&S (1.75 - 9 showings - 1 full biggest screen size and partial smallest size) - lost 3 showings and 1 of the biggest screens - not bad

OUATIH (1 - 4 showings) - showings cut in 1/2 and starting as a late start

TLK (1.5 - 8  showings - all 2d - 1 biggest screen and 1 smallest) - loses a full screen, but gets back the capacity in the screen size, so better than it probably could have hoped

Spidey (1 - 5 showings) - same as last week

Toys 4 (1 - 5 showings) - same as last week

GONE

Just the old foreign films - Toys 4 and Spidey get the reprieve with screens being shuffled to keep them both...I guess the theater couldn't decide...no opener gets a great set, although Dora and The Kitchen got the best here (and Brian Banks got passed on)...PS - this is only set through Tuesday - no decision on what they will do when Angry Birds opens...and notice a 1/2 screen is left to toss to the best opener...

1st local (Cinemark) set - 2nd local still not up...this local is NOT booking all the new movies, maybe making up for its last minute Kitchen mistake last week (which goes from a non-smallest screen last week to NOT a full screen this week - it is now obvious this is not a protected movie - watch for the enormous 2nd weekend drop for that movie)...here's the set...

NEW

Angry Birds 2 (1 - 1 3d, 4 2d) - biggest screen - sucky set for a hoped for animated breakout, but at least it's the biggest screen - it's the victim of way too many movies at once and not enough presales to get more than 1

Blinded by The Light (1 - 5) - smallest screen

Good Boys (1 - 5) - above average screen - they are obviously betting on this vs the musical movie, even though I'd have thought the other movie would hit the normal fanbase here, more

Ranarangam/Evaru (1 - 2 showings each) - smallest screen

RETURNING

Dora (1 - 5) - smallest screen - dropped a size, but no showings

Scary Stories (1 - 5) - smallest screen - same set

The Art of Racing in the Rain (1 - 5) - smallest screen - same set

H&S (1 - 5) - biggest screen - lost .75 screen, but in smallest size, so not bad overall seat drop

OUATIH (1 - 4) - smallest screen - same set

The Lion King (1 - 5) - above average screen - lost its extra partial screen - not too bad

The Kitchen (.6 - 3) - smallest screen - lost the sizing and lost a full screen - epic 2nd weekend drop incoming

Spidey (.4 - 2) - smallest screen - split with Kitchen

1 screen OPEN - probably for some more foreign film bookings or excess prime and late showings to best performing movie

GONE

Toys 4 (Spidey won the battle here, although he also took a hit), other foreign films

It looks like this is the week Toys 4 and to a lesser extent Spidey take the final huge screen hit that leaves them in large theaters only through Labor Day...if they last this week, they'll hang at smaller places b/c there will be a lot of crud to clear out the next 2 weeks, and not a lot of openers again:)...

The Kitchen is coming for the 70%+ drop this weekend, even with the older adult draw b/c it's gonna be slammed in showings everywhere at small and midsize...The Art of Racing in the Rain escaped the same fate here, and I'm wondering if that was a certain influence:)...

PS - 47 Meters Down and Where'd You Bernadette got passed...surprised about former, not about latter:)...

Genuinely surprised that my local finally is without a Disney film for the first time since Captain Marvel. Dropped Lion today for Birds.

Overall, while Kitchen isnt losing theaters in my area, it's definitely lost showtimes

So, 2nd local - Regal - is set.  They are also passing on Brian Banks, so that might be the big loser on getting into theaters this weekend.  But, they, like my other local, did book the rest...

NEW

Dora (1 - 5 showings - above average screen)

Scary Stories (1 - 5 showings - above average screen)

The Art of Racing in the Rain (1 - 5 showings - below average screen)

The Kitchen (1 - 5 showings - smallest screen - so my locals definitely didn't see this one the same)

Bring the Soul the Movie (.5 - 2 showings - biggest screen - that's a choice:).

RETURNING

H&S (1.75 - 8 showings with late starts - biggest and average screens) - loses  1.5 screens and 1/2 its showings

OUATIH (1.5 - 6 showings - average and smallest screens) - loses 1/2 a screen

TLK (2.4 - 12 showings -  biggest shared with BtS, above average, and average) - loses a showing only based on start time

Spidey (.8 - 4 showings - smallest) loses 1 showing to Toys

Toys 4 (.4 - 2 showings - 1 from Spidey and 1 from H&S - they look scratchable, since they are 11am and 11pm, but we'll see)

GONE

Crawl (just couldn't last with the opens), Aladdin (finally leaves here, too)

PS - There's a few showings left open here, too, to probably toss to the best opener...it would be funny if it was BtS...

2nd local - Regal - is up...and last week's movies are NOT protected here, either.  Unlike the 1st local, this one went for ALL five new movies, so it's a tight squeeze coming...here's the set...

NEW

Angry Birds 2 (1 - 1 3d, 4 2d) - above average screen - when you've booked 5 movies, you can't give space...this is gonna ensure AB 2 doesn't surprise much to the upside

47 Meters Down 2 (1 - 5 ) - average screen

Blinded by the Light (1 - 5) - below average - this is not getting sets from my locals that they think this is gonna surprise

Good Boys (1 - 6) - above average screen

Where'd You Go Bernadette (1 - 5) - smallest screen size - well, at least it got a spot here

RETURNING

Dora (1 - 5) - biggest screen - so, this is totally the Regal subscriber movie - I know it did well here last weekend, but wow!

Scary Stories (1 - 5) - same set and screen size

H&S (1 - 5) - above average screen - lost its extra partial screen and the biggest size

OUATIH (1 - 4) - average screen - lost its extra partial screen

The Lion King (1 - 5) - above average screen - lost 1.4 screens - big loser for the week

The Art of Racing (.5 - 2 showings) - NOT protected - gets average size and splits with...

Spidey (.5 - 2 showings) - shares with ARR - lost 2 showings, but ends up on bigger screen

The Kitchen (.5 - 2 showings) - NOT protected - gets smallest size and splits with...

Toys 4 (.5 - 2 showings) - the theater did not decide and saved both Toys and Spidey - this is same set as last week

GONE

BTS The Movie

So, all the real holdovers survive, with pretty much everything now single or split screened at both my locals...not a recipe for anything going huge, but for everything to put up decent to middling numbers...Spidey and Toys 4 both being kept was probably at TLK's expense...but I'm betting with the new subscriber base, those folks are happier to see quantities of movies kept, so they can have lots and lots of options...and 1st rule of new customer subscription pass - make them really feel the value the 1st month or two:)...

Really hope Good Boys breaks out. Looks hilarious, reviews are good, box office is sorta dead rn, and I'm really stanning for Tremblay's career.

Not gonna lie, Good Boys actually does look rather funny. The black kid saying "I respect women, my mom's my best friend" and the spikey haired kid turning and responding with "what about me" makes me chuckle every time.

Same when he's at the party and the two kids kiss and it pulls away to seeing him looking with a disgusted look and just standing up like "I'M OUT!"
