Not really sure what to use as a comp for this film, since as I understand it horror isn't that pre-sale heavy.  Maybe.  For now, gonna throw in a few recent ones along with JW2 and DP2 and hope for the best.

All movies counted today at 12pm EST:

Angel has Fallen:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7):129 (total tickets sold for Thursday) / 138 (total tickets sold for Friday, 6 showtimes)
Boston (AMC Assembly Row 12): 83 / 76 (5 showtimes)
Boston (Boston Common 19): 16 / 17 (4 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 86 / 69 (7 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 20 / 21 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 13 / 17 (4 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Center Point 11): 15 / 17 (4 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 130 / 134 (5 showtimes)
LA (AMC Bay Street): 66 / 50 (4 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 96 / 41 (8 showtimes)
Total tickets sold in 10 theaters till Thursday for Thursday: 654 and for Friday: 580.
Increased by 39% and 50% from yesterday. Stuber had on Thursday 457 / 441 sold tickets, H&S 2.902 / 3.407.
Not what I hoped for but at least it doesn't look very frontloaded.

Ready Or Not

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 71 (total tickets sold for Friday, 6 showtimes)
Boston (AMC Assembly Row 12): 22 (5 showtimes)
Boston (Boston Common 19): 18 (5 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 31 (4 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 1 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 6 (4 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Center Point 11): 10 (4 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 91 (5 showtimes)
LA (AMC Bay Street): 30 (5 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 102 (7 showtimes)
Total tickets sold in 10 theaters till Thursday for Friday: 382.
Increased by very good 89%. Crawl had on Thursday for Friday 334 tickets sold (in 10 theaters), 47 Meters Down in 9 theaters 99 and Midsommar 136 (in 8 theaters).
The Wednesday number is … now not any longer disappointing ;), presales look pretty good and WOM is also encouraging...so I still go with 10M+.

Overcomer:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): no showtimes
Boston (AMC Assembly Row 12): no showtimes
Boston (Boston Common 19): no showtimes
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 3 (total tickets sold for Thursday) / 0 (total tickets sold for Friday)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 36 / 14
Austin (AMC Barton Creek 14): 20 / 7
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Center Point 11): no showtimes
San Francisco: 20 (AMC Brentwood 14) / 3 (AMC Metreon 16)
LA (AMC Bay Street): 6 / 2
LA (AMC Universal): 6 / 8
Total tickets sold in 6 theaters till Thursday for Thursday: 91 and for Friday: 34 .
Pretty terrible but maybe this counting is pointless (we will see). Texas was a very good place for e.g. Breakthrough Pulse-wise but „my“ other states are, I think (?), not or only partly the home of the target audience. I tried to see how it does in other states but had no luck: Either it had no showtimes or it was „first pay and then chose your seat“😣 . The trailer of Overcomer has almost 7M views on yt with ca. 30k likes and 200 dislikes. Boxofficepro sees it at 6.3M OW.
(The Art of Racing in the Rain had on Thursday 128 / 176 and Blinded By the Light on Thursday for Friday 146).

It'll be interesting to see how accurate this turns out to be. Sales are pretty anemic here, but it's probably selling way better in flyover states, so I'll hopefully use these results in the future.

$24 million would be the highest opening weekend ever in the whole history of STX.

Second Act was already a massive success making 4.5x its budget at the worldwide box office while opening at the most competitive weekend of 2018.

JLo is carrying this whole studio on her back.

Hustlers actually looks really entertaining. I can see it surprising a bit.

Also The Goldfinch is tracking for a high-teens opening. Said this in the movie's actual thread but it's getting a very heavy marketing push so far. Could become a mini-sleeper if the reviews are good.

Good for Hustlers. At this point, I'm happy for ANY film to overperform, whether I'm personally interested in it or not. We need some more good box office stories beyond Disney juggernauts.

This was actually a pretty good resurgence for the film. Don't know if this will stick, but still pretty solid.
