Im curious dumb question how do they track without presales? Is it numbers estimated by studio due to things like film fests? Things like tweets/shares/reactions to trailers?,

Obviously a 90M OW would be fantastic, but I'm hoping for 100M. It's the only non-Disney film that has a good chance at crossing the mark this year, and if not, then 2019 is the first year only one studio had a film hit 100M on its OW since 2004.

 

Of course back then, 2004 only had one movie hit 100M, while this year will have...six.

Combination of a lot of things. Surveys, social media results, genre, reviews, prior films, whether from the same franchise or unrelated, etc. To my knowledge, I believe some trackers don't even look at presales to begin with.

The early shows for this Downton Abbey thing tonight are really filling up. Wonder how much air this will suck out of the movie's actual opening next week.

Well, they'll probably add the numbers to the opening Friday or weekend somehow, so...not much?:)  Might make presales uglier though...

Haven't paid any attention to the sneaks, but the Downton Abbey sales for next Thursday are still very strong, so it might not impact things that much for OW. Will probably make it even more frontloaded than it probably will be
