Salt Lake Valley report for Joker, 3 days before preview night.

Breakout Monday! 🔥🔥🔥 Suburbs had a modest rise (19% from the prior day, which had already doubled from the day before that) but what happened today in SLC proper was nothing short of phenomenal. It more than QUADRUPLED, going from 11 tix sold on Sunday to 46 today. To put that in perspective, it's not only Joker's best single day of sales thus far, it topped the previous mark, 32 on day 1, by almost 50%. Yesterday I thought $70-75M OW might be a likely landing spot, but now I think that's the absolute floor. It's days like this that make tracking box office addictive!

So yeah...this was a great day. Now of course, it's important to recognize that this is still a CBM, which are generally more fan-driven, and I don't have any comps for another CBM to use here. But 10M+ previews? Looking like more of a certainty, especially with the reports from other people here about how well the film performed in their area.

Well I have a comp that makes sense, and wouldn't you know it, it's still pretty faulty on the simple fact that it's the movie that has sold the most tickets thus far in my archive. And with how much it has sold, and how little Maleficent does day to day, it'll make comparisons even more tricky. Such is life I suppose.

Anyways, while yes, this has had presales up for a couple weeks, and is at a period in time where it's too far away from presales announcements, but not so close to the actual release of the movie, but those two tickets still seem pretty mediocre to me, especially since tonight was premiere night. Hopefully things improve in the future.

T-3(Day 8 )

Very good day as expected. Exceeded final count of IT2 at Empire 25 already. At AMC and all other sites 5 2d shows are listed as sellouts. It happened rather suddenly and so I want to hold off before accounting for them(will do on wed if it still there). That would add almost another 1000 tickets sold at Empire !!!!! Tracked few more AMC theaters at NYC area and overall number almost 10K in just that region. That is close to 200K in preview sales from 22 theaters in that area. I am confident its breaking out big.

I'd call this a strong day in Sacramento, but not a fantastic one like yesterday.  On rate of growth, still pacing for double digits for Thur, IMO.  Starting tomorrow, I'll have Venom as a comp.

I do have a lot of other CBMs, but not sure how much value they'll be or how different they'll be from either a Venom or Deadpool 2 comp. I'll see if I feel like putting them in at T-1 or at final bell.

All in all, even if Sacto is an underperforming market, I'd say Joker is doing what it needs to for 10m+ on Thr.  After that, your guess is as good as mine.

Good weekend sales for LS13.  I'm excited that the standard shows had good increases in sales across the board.  That's excellent for the film.  Meanwhile, Cinemagic's either poised to pull a TS4 and be Walk Up Central on Thursday, or it's decided it doesn't care about the Joker.  (I think it's more the former.)

I present to you, a Tale of Two Theaters, music by Hildur Guðnadóttir and lyrics by Todd Philips.

Act One, Cinemagic.

Oddly enough, I feel like Dark Phoenix is the best comps.  Comic book property, devoted fanbase that isn't as broad as the MCU's family friendly umbrella, going to be frontloaded AF.  It's also the ONLY movie at to be remotely close in comps at both theaters.  I don't know.  I'm just going HMMMMM.  HMMMMMMMM.  We still have three days.  We'll see.

Act Two, Lincoln Square.

I don't know if I can use "it's the IMAX screen" cautionary explanation anymore.  It's still only behind Lion King and Endgame.  It's so far ahead of the other comps that if you'd look just here you'd think it's going 20M+ in previews.  (Which, if it does that, I will LAUGH.  Just LAUGH.) .

So I think the moral of this play is: it's gonna be the biggest we've seen in a long time.  And here's my interpretive dance of that thesis:

It didn't have quite the jump that other trackers' areas had today but today was still a good day for Joker nonetheless, and the comp went up too so that's good.

Prediction. Insanely high preview BOT goes nuts. Presold big time results in depressed Friday and every joker stan panics. End result good OW at 105m

I think you saying 105 is "good" pretty much shows what's gonna happen - the movie opens to a still-record high-80's number, but somehow is seen as disappointing. I kinda think this is inevitable at this point.
