The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

Data for Fan event shows at AMC.

12987/16576 (101 shows).

5 are sellouts and many almost sellouts. This was not part of rest of the preview BO numbers i posted earlier.

These are uber expensive shows. Lincoln Square tickets are 35 bucks a pop while its 30 bucks at Empire 25. Even smaller centers are at $25.

FWIW, I'm also tracking the local SW Marathon.  At a $100 a ticket I think it qualifies for "PLF" pricing in my sheets.

(actually cheaper than than the AMC cost of $125, FWIW)

Fair amount of sales, actually.  Last time I checked at around 12:30pm it had sold just under 60 tickets out of a total of 161.  I doubt it will sell out but I also reckon they'll be adding it to TROS's gross on some level so those tickets will add up.

===

As I mentioned above, did a quick check around lunch time and TROS had already sold over 900 tickets locally since last night.  Even on an adjusted basis, which is a little over 730 tickets, it's beating IW's second day locally which was 541 tickets.

Unless the bottom falls out it'll beat Endgame's second day of sales as well.  Though, bit of a caution flag as EG started 12 hours earlier AND was already dealing with capacity issues.

Still, looking strong today.  Gonna slow down dramatically though as we enter the marathon stage of the tracking.  But very very encouraging start, IMO.

It seems more close to TLJ than TFA

Maybe $ 45-50M

Yeah, I may be the board's resident Star Wars shill, but let's take it slow for now.  I'll file the start under Encouraging and even Great.  But let's hold off on Record Breaking for quite a while.  If ever, actually.

So 200k for previews then

I multiplied by ticket price for each theater and came up with $314428 for the fan events. This was simple change to the script. I will start putting $ value to other list as well as each web page scraped for the show has the ticket price but I will assume all are adult tickets. For fan events all ticket prices are the same but for regular show there is some discount.

Yeah that's what I do. Unfortunately there is no way to tell the kids ticket proportion so I just adjust the nationwide estimate based on the kid friendliness

So I take it Rise of Skywalker is going to be a gargantuan hit.

Star Wars fans are only rivaled by Old School Harry Potter fans (and now Avengers fans who beat them both handily) when it comes to being the king of the pre-sale rush, so it's still a bit of an open question.

Doesn't look like it's gonna bomb right out of the gate though.  I'll have a better sense of the landing zone in a couple weeks.  Right now, I'd say the floor for Thr previews is probably 40m.

Probably.  I emphasize probably coz there's a loooooong way to go.

Doesn't mean I won't raise the floor in the coming weeks.  But I am a really cautious person by nature (if also optimistic - I contain multitudes as I said in another thread) so I want to see at least a week's worth of data before I raise my floor.

So my computer is having all kinds of issues. But before everything went haywire Thursday preview sales looked to be in the 130k range at Cinemark, which translates to about 13 million nationwide and about 68% of Endgame's first day.

Thanks

68% please me considering how mindblowing EG was

Anything between $ 40-50M for TROS previews Will be great And bodes well for another $ 200M OW
