Wasn't able to do an update earlier today, so I figured I might as well do it after the Golden Globes. Definitely looks like a breakout.

I really really do think 40M (or more?) could happen for 1917 this weekend. It's PTA's have consistently been around 115-120% of Lone Survivor (same calendar) which did 38M on its wide release (similar comps would give 1917 43-46).

Granted, 1917 won't play as big to middle America as Lone Survivor, so that could hurt it. But let's not forget that Lone Survivor was pulling in its PTAs in 2 theatres while 1917 has been in 11. Not to mention this movie is riding a wave of hype after the Globes, which Survivor didn't have. Survivor opened wide in under 2900 theatres too, and I might be mistaken but isn't 1917 on 3000+?

I honestly think Lone Survivor is the o/u number at this point, with a lot of room for growth.

1917 Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report T-3 and Counting

Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold
TOTALS 0 20 249 4,132 6.03%

Comp

2.092x of Angel Has Fallen 3 days before release (3.14M)

1.586x of Ad Astra (2.38M)

1.729x of Rambo (2.25M)

0.976x of Terminator (2.29M)

6.730x of Midway (6.22M)

1.976x of Ford v Ferrari (4.15M)

4.527x of Neighborhood (4.07M)

There's a huge range here (though that Midway comp is obviously an outlier) but even the lower end would make 30M+ almost a certainty, which is obviously fantastic. We'll see how the next few days unfold

This is not as impressive. But hey, it could do better than some of WB's other botched fall dramas?
