The Hunt (T-3)

MTC1 - overall 350 shows 1656/44576 21676.52 16738.29

MTC2 - overall 510 shows 452/61340 5095.92 3518.62

This is doing better than Bloodshot with fewer shows though it does not look like doing that much either.

The Hunt (T-2)

MTC1 - overall 527 shows 2620/64920 33979.52 26160.00

MTC2 - overall 578 shows 571/69058 6433.59 4451.58

Probably looking at 0.5m previews or less.

I Still Believe (T-2)

MTC2 - overall 629 shows 3723/87692 40488.71 27663.49

Best of the 3 but numbs are still weak. Not sure it has enough momentum to hit 1m previews. I think COVID-19 will have a role for sure.

Guys my number for Bloodshot MTC1 was wrong(should have guessed looking at how low it was). Here you go anyway

I'm getting numbers for MTC4 right now.  They are very low.

While these numbers accurately reflect what MTC4 show on their site, there are some questionable things going on at a few theaters.  I think it's safe to say that the "real" number of tickets sold is about 100 less for each day.

"Thank goodness for those Wed Double Features", is all I gotta say.  Huge spike at Century Arden for the Wed double feature (40 tickets sold) and a decent amount at a couple of others.

Theaters are obviously still being hella reluctant to book showings, and ticket goers aren't that eager, either.  But as long as those double feature numbers get rolled into Thr (and I'm fairly sure they will) and we get decent walkups next week, this might just get salvaged after all.

...

Or not.  Lots of time for people to not show up, after all.  But that comp against It 2 has risen every single day, if because of those double features.  Just have to see if it also translates into butts in the seats on Thr.

And the Corona news gets worse each day.

You have to wonder how many people who have bought tickets will ask for refunds or just not show.

I swear, I really really don't want to see a repeat of Captain Marvel last year to fit a narrative.

- Says movie is going to bomb.

- Movie doesn't bomb.

- People need to construct narrative that fits with their preconceptions that the movie will bomb.

- Suddenly you get a bunch of reports of "empty theatres" so studio could inflate its numbers.

Except captain marvel was always headed for mid 100s to the well informed, whereas AQP is going to do like 40M total if it doesn’t move because official cases will have exploded into the dozens of thousands.

The prospect of essentially having an empty theater to myself when I see A Quiet Place next weekend and don't have to tell anyone to hush during all the dialogue-free stretches actually seems...like too good of a scenario.

Apropos of nothing, but can I just give a shout out to whoever does the captions for these topic headings? They are consistently amusing, and even more welcome in these days of dreary box office and real world headlines.

Well done, good sir or madam! 👏

And I don't deny that that is a very real possibility. All I'm saying is a I don't want, if it opens to 60+, for people to call out conspiracy theories of empty-theatres or studio buying tickets, to fit their narrative of "no one is going to see it". The numbers should speak for themselves. If it bombs, I'll concede that it should have moved. If it is a big hit, the people saying "Paramount hates money" should also concede that it was fine where it was.

Sure, but pretending that both are possible is pretty insane at this point.

Wondering whether AQP can open well is like wondering if there was a good box office in Italy last weekend.

You do realise that 99% of these conspiracy theories came from the "go woke, go broke" crowd right? Unless AQP2 is targeted by them (which I doubt will happen), we won't be getting those kinds of conspiracy theories.

No, it's not the same at all. Because the United States/Canada aren't on nationwide lockdown unlike Italy. Plus, Quiet Place hasn't opened yet, whereas Italy's box office last weekend HAS happened. It isn't the same thing at all.

I mean yea, the Captain Marvel one was. But to assume that only one particular group of people is capable to disseminating conspiracy theories is ridiculous. I'm not saying it will happen, but the comment I quoted above seemed to be a dangerous precursor to that (it isn't a bad post in and of itself, but if people take it the wrong way it can lead down a bad path).

It is basically the same. 14 day difference between the weekends in question. US is less than 14 days behind Italy, with a worse response. The fact that people can’t put 2 and 2 together is increasingly depressing me.
