The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

guys regal said that tickets are now on sale , does the same applies for the rest of the chains ?

As I understand from what I've read, sounds like all chains have certain theatres open, possibly depending on state rules. I know Regal has put out a roadmap of what theatres are open now and  when others will open, Im guessing other chains may have similar roadmap either now or in future.

Im reading a lot of "Oh wow zilla vs kong is open in "x" city, I wish my city would open up soon" type of comments here and elsewhere.

Mortal Kombat Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report T-15 and Counting (Fri)

Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold
TOTALS 0 39 98 2754 3.56%

Comps

0.109x of Godzilla vs. Kong T-15 Before Release (1.05M)

This...is complicated. Having just one comp, especially one that opened so high and had considerable hype upon its release, does put this movie at a disadvantage and makes it harder to determine how the movie is doing. And while two of the Regals I track will be opened on the 23rd, they haven't gotten showtimes up yet.

But at first glance, I do think this could have had a bit of a stronger start, though it's still very early days.

This is better. Still on the low side when it comes to the GvK comp (though like I said, bit of a disadvantage), but it's a decent increase IMO and hopefully there will be some strong momentum in the next couple weeks

Not sure if anyone is interested but GVK looks like dropping close to 70% from last friday. Its up just about 100% or tad under that from thursday. Show count wise its not that far off from last friday in MTC1 and 22% off in MTC2. Of course PWP sales are also way down and I think it wont dominate it as much as last time either. I am thinking ~ 3.3m friday

That could mean 60% from opening week, a beyond terrible holds, GvK may miss 100m total.

You were tracking weekdays? Thursday was just 1.7? That probably means 57.5 total till Thurs.

-60% is on the harsh side but nothing crazy. The Wed open should cushion the 2nd weekend drop a bit — but the holiday OW and being on Max exacerbate it.

Taking 3.3 Fri and 9.2 SS, the SS drop would be 54%. Compare:

BvS -57% SS (1.74 multi from first M-S week)

F8 -49% SS (1.97 week multi)

F7 -48% SS (1.97 week multi)

RPO -34% SS (1.96 week multi)

WW84 had holiday inflated first weekdays (even more intense than Easter) and a huge 2nd weekend drop but still getting about 2.5x week multi). So assuming a 70M 2nd weekend cume for GvK (57.5+12.5) that’s a 22M week, add 22-33 for 92-103ish.

I looked at thursday to get a perspective for friday increase.

GVK Thursday

MTC1 - 32580/415138 410203.00 2358 shows (302 theatres)

MTC2 - 32274/444587 340787.32 3219 shows(294 theatres)

GVK Friday

MTC1 - 63722/929829 761760.00 5406 shows(427 theatres)

MTC2 - 64727/594874 710946.47  4163 shows(294 theatres)

I expect PWP also to have dropped off big time for obvious reasons. Still let us hope for good saturday increase. At least show counts are not that far off especially in MTC1 where many theatres are closed during weekdays.

Yeah seems like $1.5-1.6M Thursday and $3.2M Friday. Hopefully Saturday increase is better and Sunday drop ain't awful like last week.

I don't suppose there will be any rush or so but @keysersoze123

So I checked one show in AMC Newport, NY. And its almost SOLD OUT.

While I was getting sales for Mortal Kombat, there were already a few sellouts for this on that same Friday. I knew this was a phenomenon for Japan, but as a non-anime watcher, I had no idea how popular this Demon Slayer show was to the West. I guess it is pretty big here?

I suppose it can do pretty well. Dragon Ball Broly did $30.7M in USA. May be can expect $20M atleast.
