Well...so much for a cooldown phase. Even taking out the sellout, that's still a very solid bounce of 90 tickets right there. Things are looking up fam!

This seems really strong to me. More so with this opening on Friday unlike Wednesday for GvK. If this open to $4M OD I consider it a win.

Still hard for me to really peg openings in this day and age, but I was pegging the high teens for Mortal Kombat before presales hit. The trailer did well and there's nothing else coming out between Kong and Memorial Day. But honestly, I'm really thinking it could surpass 20M at this point judging by tickets so far

Yeah I’ve been thinking 20-25ish for a while, not that there was super much to go off of.

More interested in DS that weekend anyway.

20-25 opening for MK? or total sum? if so, DS and MK combined may beat 31.6m that GvK's contribution.

Daily pace is really strong. Doing a straight up comparison for both of these on ((MK daily pace T-9)/(GvK daily pace T-9)) * (GvK tickets sold T-9 to T-0) * (GvK OD) gives 10.2 million Friday from Philly and 8.4 million Friday from Denver.

Of course GvK T-9 is estimated for @Inceptionzq since that was 4 days of data but...

Granted I don't expect MK to have as strong late bumps as GvK since it doesn't have as much buzz. So I think more like 6.5-7 million OD is likely.

I don't know if this is accurate depiction, but Fandango has Demon Slayer ahead of GVK and Mortal Kombat for me at homepage. I suppose they sort it on how stuff is selling.

I counted 48 Sold outs from 152 shows on Thursday in NY. Checked couple of shows, many of them will soon be sold.

LA ain't that strong with only 4 SO out of 158 shows. But I suppose there's still whole week to go.

Sacramento is nice. @Porthos 29/64.

I guess can do this often.

A more organised. Demon Slayer Sellout count T-7 days (morning)

NYC - 48/152
LA - 4/158
Chicago - 4/27

Houston - 4/152
Phoenix - 4/80

Philadelphia - 7/22
San Antonio - 2/46
San Diego - 3/66

Dallas - 2/44
Boston - 1/33
Sacramento - 29/64 (this is strongest I suppose. TIL Sacramento is CA capital, always thought it must be LA)

New Jersey - 24/87

Total of these - 132/931

So I checked cities with most Japanese population, and google told me Sacramento is 2nd. So I thought well that explains. But then it isn't really saying much.

Rank City State Japanese-Americans Percentage
1 Honolulu Hawaii 86,612[3] 23.3%
2 Sacramento California 6,642[4] 1.6%
3 Seattle Washington 8,979[5] 1.6%
4 San Francisco California 11,410[6] 1.5%
5 San Jose California 11,484[7] 1.5%
6 Los Angeles California 36,992[8] 1.0%

So MK and DS will be first test of if market can accommodate two big openers, by pandemic standard of course. So far I recall none of  the weekend we have more than 1 movie debut to above 10m.

No weekend has had multiple movies open at 4M+
