It will be very saddening if AQP2 failed to beat GvK's opening. It is a full theatrical release with higher capacity allowance and theater count  , combined with the fact that AQP1 made more money than KOTM and 2 months worth of progress in term of vaccination and reduction in outbreak.

If all those improvement don't warrant a at least 40m 3 days opening (Ideally 50m), I don't know what else need to be done.

AQP2 may fail to open with 50m under normal circumstances. You picked the wrong movie.

Spoiler

Neither of these are ideal comps of course, we’re just working with what we’ve got from recent circumstances. Fully expecting AQP to pick up in the home stretch. But, still, yeesh.

Wednesday? Still "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead". Thursday?  Not exactly looking too hot, he said mildly.

One of the smaller chains in town (not one of the Big Three MTCs) cancelled a few post 9pm showings at three of its locations today.  Expect it to follow suit at the fourth real soon now.  Really am interested to see just how long this takes to play out, and what theaters add showings and which cancel them and when.

Have to admit, I am surprised at the resilience of Wed Double Features.  I suppose that might be the hard core fanbase showing up.  Haven't seen many cancellations at the ticket level yet for Thr (just two that I noticed today).  Then again, not exactly many peeps on Thr in the first place.

And just now:

AQP Part II - Take Two will almost certainly be past 707 tickets sold locally come Wednesday night (T-8).  Slightly apples and oranges for a couple of reasons, as there was a AQP double feature sucking down a lot of tickets, while Thr got hit with the first real wave of 'rona apprehension (this was a day or so after the NBA shut down).

But even before the 'rona took ahold of public consciousness, it's not like AQP II was setting the world on fire.

Not really much to say here, except that I find it interesting that locally at least the second go around of AQP II will match the sales of the first attempt, and that's with most of the region still under a 25% cap.

===

EDITED:::

Mind it is true that one of the theaters I am tracking switched to reserved seating in the downtime.  On the other hand, that accounts for a whopping 17 tickets as of right now, which will be  easily countered by the PWPs that have been sold for AQP II (especially since I know for a virtual fact that the one Regal PWP that has been sold is for AQP II).  So those extra seats being tracked isn't a factor in my opinion, at least at the T-8 marker.

Had forgotten that it will be nice dataset to compare the AQP with last year PS when it all went wrong. Quite strong performance there.

What's semi-interesting is the really ludicrous comp for GvK (which if nothing else has a different pattern of presales) is in the same ballpark as the original projected comp for AQP II against It 2 (4.55m vs 5.14m).

If I actually felt comfortable doing it, I'd be tempted to switch to an It 2 comp, adjusted for the extra theater tracking info I have.  Not saying I do feel comfortable doing it (if only for PWPs and different amount of theaters/seating caps).  But lord knows I'm tempted.

GvK is missing Canada and probably few regions of US, so that make sense.

I think $4M Thursday will be a good result, will probably point toward $35M plus weekend.

I am not sure what to gauge, but does this mean the pre-sale largely match with last year's pre-sale before corona?

Locally, yes.  Can't speak for elsewhere.  Might just be a statistical blip.
