I also checked the Cinemark that’s out of my way but are big luxury seats

Thursday

North Hills:

Old- 710. 10. 13 tickets.

Snake Eyes- 730. 14 tickets

Friday:

Old- 1 (2 tickets), 4, 7 (6 tickets)

Snake Eyes- 110 (7 tickets), 430 (2 tickets), 750 (3 tickets)

thursday

Robinson (Snake Eyes not on sale)

Old- 710 (4 tickets), 1010

Friday

Old- 1, 4, 7 (29 tickets), 10 (2 tickets)

While Snake Eyes is doing bit better overall with presales, it is still close and I think walk-ups favor Old (at least on Thursday and Friday before WOM). I guess mid-teens for Snake Eyes and low teens for Old during weekend as of now.

On the 29th, my Cinemark has 4 showings of Jungle Cruse beginning at 6 and so far 1 ticket sold.

At AMC, the 7 DOLBY has 16 seats sold, 2 seats for 745 IMAX, 0 for the 6PM.

But I guess it’ll be a very weak previews movie. Friday and Saturday matinees will tell the story. The Friday 345 Dolby has 1 sell and 5 for the 715.

Still think low 20s OW at most

Ooof.  TSS better hope Tomato Law comes through.

(Could also be a Hobbs & Shaw situation, where folks are just waiting until much later to buy tickets, though why that would be, I have no idea)

Sorry. My bad. I read @Eric E Coyote number as $3.6M previews, bur they seem like Thu+FRI compared with Cruella.

So...you're kind of right on the first one. I'm only looking at Jungle Cruise's Thursday sales but I'm also comparing it to Cruella's Thursday and Friday sales because by that point, I was looking at both days at a time when Thursday previews weren't regularly reported like they are now.

And yes, I know that using two days as a basis for just one day isn't ideal, but this is the hand I was given and I have to use it.

The fact that first trailer was sold on his name and the follow-up went “from the director of GOTG” probably bears this out. You don’t have to pay somebody to do market research to know he’s not a household name director (not knocking him personally or as a filmmaker) and if normies recognize him it’s probably for his firing years back…

I think they would be well-served to offer a TMobile deal or an Atom deal early - get some folks in as locked-in buyers, and maybe they talk it up and bring in their friends and family...

Especially since it seems like no one wants to bite the bullet and pay full price for another possible stinker (I didn't love Suicide Squad or Birds of Prey, although the latter was better than the utter awfulness of the former)...I don't think it's helping they have some carry over characters even if people individually thought those characters were the best parts of the movies, b/c then you think of those movies and that this is a sequel to awfulness...

I'm also not sold on the wisdom of having a review drop 15 days out as opposed to something more like 7 to 10 days out.  I get what WB is hoping for, but it might be that people will look at the reviews, go "Oh, really?  It's actually good, huh?" make a mental note to perhaps buy tickets closer to release and then promptly forget about it.

It's not like I don't see the strategy here (pull any and all levers to goose buzz and awareness), just not sure if it isn't anything but a Hail Mary pass right now.

Mind, I didn't just pull that Hobbs & Shaw analogy out of my butt for no reason.  On the other hand, we might rapidly be approaching a situation where that is a best case scenario/hope instead of expectation.

Old, counted today at 11am EST for Friday:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 42 (5 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
18 (6 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 2 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9):
1 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11):
5 (3 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 31 (4 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal):
51 (4 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 150.
Comps (always from the same day = Moday of the release week): The Conjuring 3 (24.1M OW) had in the same 7 theaters 641 sold tickets for Friday.
AQP II (47.5M OW) had in the same 7 theaters 747 sold tickets for Thursday.
Crawl (12.0M OW) had in 6 theaters (minus NY) 87 sold tickets for Friday (so here vs 108).
The Invisible Man (28.2M OW) had in the same 7 theaters 323 sold tickets for Friday.
And The Forever Purge (12.6M OW) had in the same 7 theaters 104 sold tickets for Thursday.
Honestly I expected more given that the trailer was well received (IMO). It seems like this movie would need a boost from reviews but of course I have now smaller hopes that this will happen.

Snake Eyes, counted today at 11am EST, also for Friday:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 92 (5 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
13 (6 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 3 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9):
7 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11):
4 (3 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 81 (8 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal):
72 (7 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 272.

Comps (both times from the same day = Moday of the release week): F9 had in the same 7 theaters 1.656 sold tickets for Friday.
Angel has Fallen had in 6 theaters (minus NY) 159 sold tickets for Friday (so here vs 180).

I would say that's ok for the moment but no signs of a break out so far.

PS: If TSS looks bad on Monday in two weeks I maybe start to worry but not earlier (and even then good WOM can switch things up). Too many films looked like flops and then they had a great final week or even only days and others looked like big hits and then they slowed down. And I mean Suicide Squad made 325M Domestic, there should be some interest in a hopefully this time good film.
Overall the sells are a bit muted at the moment, for all films. I notice that too of course. Maybe people really wait for reviews and fan reactions before they pay for a mediocre film, Idk.

Since Keyser is taking a break I will post some MTC2 numbers. There was an issue with calculating the daily pace for BW but I think the overall number shouldn't be that off so it should give a decent indicator.

The Suicide Squad

Thursday

Showtimes: 1385

Seats Sold: 3729/221483

~0.136x Black Widow's Day 6 total (1.79 million)

Friday:

Showtimes: 3215

Seats Sold: 2720/526594

~0.182x Black Widow's Day 6 total (4.79 million)

The Black Widow number is extrapolated, I took Day 5 and Day 7 but not Day 6, but it won't be far off the real number. Either way the numbers are extremely low. Obviously Black Widow is not the best comp but even the Th/Fri ratio looks decently frontloaded (not as much as BW but definitely more so than F9).
