Comps:

Green Knight T-1

Old - 1.15x (1.72m)

Escape Room 2 - 1.547x (1.86m)

Average - 1.79m

Stillwater T-1

12 Mighty Orphans - 1.34x (no preview, 900k weekend)

Roadrunner - .44x (88k)

Jungle Cruise T-1

Snake Eyes - 1.48x (2.1m)

F9 - .21x (1.5m)

BW - .1x (1.29m)

Average - 1.62m

Not sure where I got off on TSS but this should be T-8.  Avg tracking against F9 and BW puts it at 1.71m at this point.  GK is still hanging with the comps; maybe it will get to 1.5m+ for previews after all.  Even if that is the case, it seems like it'd be more frontloaded than those comps so still around the 9m-10m range for the weekend.  Jungle Cruise (J Crew?) needs to get to 755 (+293) by tomorrow morning to get to 2m with these comps.  Definitely possible, just a matter of will it.

I'll probably add Don't Breathe 2 and Respect over the weekend.   Looks like both are on sale now.  Free Guy has showings up so it'll be soon as well.

I wasn't much into Hollywood back then, so just realised that Suicide Squad opened with $45M true Friday or $65M including THU. That's HUGE, to me that's more impressive than BvS $54M on Good Friday.

It was hotly anticipated plus trailers were damn good.

Rave reviews did not save In the Heights and it sure hell won't save this. The stench of the first movie, the dual HBO Max launch, mediocre marketing and the pandemic still limiting the potential of theaters everywhere make for a highly toxic and lethal cocktail.

I wouldn't mind traveling to a parallel universe where not only was this the Suicide Squad movie we got back in 2016, but also the pandemic never happened. I'll always wonder how well it could've done.

I know this ain't happening but CBM to CBM comp, if it really has $2M previews, that open possibility of OW under $16M i.e. what WW84 opened continuing trend of DCEU OW decline which no one thought will continue past Birds of Prey $33M OW.

:wintf:

No one thought DCEU openings would continue to decline after Birds of Prey… did you forget Birds of Prey opened pre pandemic?

WW84 was released in December pre-vaccine when only 40% of all locations in America were opened with capacity restrictions, never mind just NY and LA being closed.

It’s just downright naive to imply that WW84 opened to less than Birds of Prey because of waning interest in DC films.

Moderation

Guys this isn't The Suicide Squad thread. I get this thread is about discussing buzz and OW potential, and I know talking about a film's shortcomings and strengths is a part of this. However, it's starting to feel a bit too off-topic and a lot of posts feel like they belong in the proper TSS thread. I think it's best to move conversation elsewhere.

Paris first session is just above New Mutants in recent years for DC/Marvel film. Yikes.

To be fair, isn't France requiring people to show their COVID vaccine cards in order to see a movie? That's got to impact stuff.

In Paris and France, there is the health pass, all films have dropped by 70%-80%, unfortunately no one goes to the cinema anymore.

So many of your posts these days require some context. It’s getting troll-like to be honest.

-EDITED-

Even though it was purely about tracking, deleting my post about H&S's pre-sales as a point of comparison to TSS after seeing Eric's latest post.

Lol, looking at sales in Canada, that would be laughable if Stillwater opened higher than Green Knight. Its sales have been pathetic.

Thinking 3M for Stillwater, 12M for Green Knight.

It's all a matter of screen space. As I said earlier, The Green Knight is getting booked in smaller auditoriums where I am (meaning sell-outs aren't hard to achieve with such limited seating), and it'll likely be frontloaded.

I mean even when some locals were hyping up BW doing 100 OW (lol), even I was skeptical. And add onto TSS's handicaps that's been ad nauseum repeated,  that number for TSS seemed unrealistic even when things were relatively doing better weeks ago. But sometimes the bold investments in the clubs pay off handsomely. And sometimes people get their legs broken.

What is lol about Black Widow opening to 100? The presales were stunning and it was a MCU movie. It probably does without PA
