Jungle Cruise and Suicide Squad have the same budget, do they not? $200m each?

So I don’t know if a $30m opening is acceptable for Jungle Cruise either. Surely that film isn’t getting a free pass?

The Suicide Squad is free on HBOMax on Thursday evening btw everyone. Usually it’s a Friday.

I'll say Jungle Cruise underperformed too. But at least it has that PA money to cover its loss.

If I give Disney the dollars from my old Monopoly board, will that help?

Granted I pulled these numbers 4 hours early but 10 seats is still nothing great. Will see if I can do a check later on.

Edit:

Am not gonna regularly track it but Estrella Fall, #3 theater in Chain for Black Widow has so far sold 100 seats grossing $1,443 (8.2%) on 4 shows. That's 22% of BW T-7 Days, so T-5 days is probably 20%, giving around $2.6M.

Edit 2: Only 6 more tickets sold in one show.

What are you trying to say?

Tongue and cheek way of making light of the PA propaganda used for weeks, when they don’t keep every dollar. It might as well be using imaginary currency with the dollars they don’t actually collect ala Monopoly money.

Sorta surprised how Suicide Squad is doing considering how hyped up it seemed to be.

Don't be. We all saw what happened with Birds of Prey. People detested the first movie, so any sequel to or spinoff from that might as well be a stillborn. The stench is simply too powerful. I'm shocked that this movie was even made at all.

Even without COVID, there was simply no way in hell this was ever going to be profitable at all. I just hope when this inevitably bombs it doesn't affect Marvel's confidence in James Gunn.

The buzz is very very good.  The hype looks to be next to non-existent. Usually buzz and hype go and in hand, but in this case there seems to be a remarkable divergence.  And the film is running out of time for it to turn around.

I think Gunn is in a win win situation regardless. He’s already got Guardians 3/Holiday special in production with Marvel and Peacemaker in post at WB. And it’s only my impression, Gunn is probably personally done with Marvel after this stint

Just did three theatres in Ontario. Two bigger ones in Toronto and a smaller one from my hometown. Had to estimate the total seats for some of the theatres because we do physical distancing here so if I buy a single seat for myself, nobody is sitting on my left or right. Cineplex just blocks those seats off. Is any US state doing that? I don’t know how much Ontario will help. Maybe it’s doing better in other provinces.

T-4 to Thursday night:

Scotiabank -

IMAX

7:00pm - 97 sold / 400

10:15pm - 58 sold / 400

Regular

7:30pm - 28 sold / 312

8:00pm - 15 sold / 300

10:45pm - 4 sold / 360

11:00 - 0 sold / 312

202 / 2084 = 9.69% sold (estimate)

Yorkdale

Ultra avx

7:30pm - 32 sold / 300

10:30pm - 6 sold / 300

Regular

7:00pm - 6 sold / 420

8:00pm - 6 sold / 420

10:00pm: 1 sold / 445

11:00pm: 0 sold / 350

51 / 2235 = 2.28 % sold (estimate)

Silvercity Richmond Hill

ultra avx

7:25pm - 20 sold / 315

10:30pm - 9 sold / 315

Regular

7:00pm - 3 sold / 288

10:05pm - 0 sold / 288

32 / 1206 = 2.65%

The regular late night showings simply won’t sell because nobody wants them and it’s too late unless a few older teenagers/people in their early twenties decide to go soon. I hope this is helpful 🤷🏻‍♂️

He’s just had the best reviewed film of his career :)

Plus, by your rationale: Jungle Cruise just bombed too then. And with mixed reviews.

I don’t think that’ll put Disney off working with The Rock and Emily Blunt again.

I think BOP is a poor comparrisson. BOP had a fraction of the budget and was advertised as a fashion show. The reviews were't good enough to bring in people who had doubts, it never looked like it had anything fun to offer.

Without Covid TSS will have needed what, 500m worldwide to turn a profit? I think that would have happened

What's your problem with this movie?

And you don't  know how would be the boxoffice without Covid and HBO Max.

What is HBO max? I'm from the UK. Does it mean it's available for free on Friday for the US?

HBO Max is Warners Streaming service where all of their 2021 films are released on the same day. So yes, its actually free on Thursday evening when previews open. Yet another wrinkle in the puzzle of determining how it will work.
