Do we know what was Endgame's Canada OW?

Plus what is the potential for Shang Chi. Can it hit double digits in Canada over the weekend. I expect this to be big in Toronto/Vancouver areas where the chinese population should be big.

c$38.5m. was $28.5m back then now $31.5m with better ER.

Seems the question now is if it will be closer to 8M or 9M, but anyway it will be a great preview number and should lead to a strong weekend that hopefully will calm down the doom and gloom.

Hoping for 9M tho, acceleration so far seems good enough, if tomorrows did really good i think it will be more probable than 8M.

The T-1 comp being posted a couple hours later would likely depress that multi.

Depends when T-0 gets counted I suppose. Having windows of 21-27 hours sometimes instead of strict 24 can make comps a little more error prone but that’s just the nature of the beast as IRL stuff can interfere with the timing.

$28.5M.

Amazing. Canada has grown faster than US and that is saying something considering Endgame did 357m+ in NA. for Comparison TDK grossed 10.53m OW in Canada while its overall record OW was 158.4m in 2008. Avatar opened to "just"  6.26m in Canada and grossed over 100m total.

Endgame records will stand this decade for sure.

I suppose the numbers reported at WoKJ are in US$. If so, ER in 2008 was $1=C$1.05.

Growth in local currency is 2.86x. If they are already in C$, then 3x.

Edit: Looking at HP 6 numbers, they seems to be in C$. HP 6 did C$30.5M which was US$32M in Nov 2007.

Edit 2: Not enough data to prove anything.

The Fridays at my theaters still lack matinees. Earliest showtimes begin around 3. Is this an east coast thing or everywhere?

Aka I wonder if early estimates are underrating which would cause freakouts while the night shows explode and make up for it. Or that Saturday holds better

No, my local multiplex have Friday starts at 11am. Looking at Manhattan - lots of shows starting at 10/11.

As I thought, good old Cineplex dropping the bomb of extra shows and screens. Yay!

Toronto sales for Shang Chi seem very strong, theres definitely an interest in the movie. Have to wonder how much of it is a brand new character, seeing as last character Origin film was Captain Marvel (?)

What is reasonable guess for 3D/4D if it hits $8m previews?

Thanks.

Well, the meltdown bar is 4day and we’re definitely going over 8 for previews, so this checks out pretty well I feel?

You love tempting fate, don'tcha?  I mean,  I think it's going over 8, but...

...

Lemme put it this way.

IN NO WAY ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH WOULD SHANG-CHI DOING "ONLY" 75M ON THE FOUR DAY BE WORTHY OF A MELTDOWN.

Like, I get the joke you're going for.  But, no.  Not remotely.

Agreed particularly as it would be a Labor Day record by a large margin.

That said most of the US data is pointing to at least at 8m preview number but with Canada over performance and likely late walk ups due to Delta concerns in some regions I would be shocked by a number under 9m and I am expecting 10m.

Oh,I think I know a thing or two about box-office related meltdowns.

Moment tracking thread say $10M THU and it didn't hit $85M 4 days, there will be MELTDOWNS.

This kinda presupposes that the tracking thread doesn't say "10m Thr", for the record.

Even so, I stand by my initial statement.
