Some of my Regals have showtimes for NTTD up. Previews start at 4 and thankfully it seems they aren't doing that dumbass "PLF all Thursday" idea MGM had back in 2020.

What the hell was MGM even releasing during 2020 at all? Or was that before the pandemic?

Quite expected I would say, from a few different angles (Fri/Sat historical comps, Sat PS). If we can come on closer to the .5 than .0 that would be  33% Sat-to-Sat drop which I the 2nd best in mcu after Black Panther only (35% drop of 15.0 is actually still 2nd best — TA at -38 after BP -28). Also better than Jungle Cruise. Bodes well for legs from here.

TA being 2nd best was a second hand factoid. Doing some own research and I think Thor is 2nd best with just -35%. Thor Day 6-14 may look very close to SC in fact, will be interesting to see how close 2nd weekdays play.

It got hit by Pirates the next weekend. SC should have a much better hold.

Yeah that’s why I stopped before day 15 😆

Another BO person points out that Thor opened in the 2nd weekend of Fast Five whereas most later MCU movies didn’t have anything dare to open immediately before.

Unlike my joke last night, this was a pretty nice day.  Had a rise day-over-day, which is always good and comps increased on everything.  Slightly mitigated by the fact that the last theater finally checked in.  On the other hand, they only contributed 14 ticket sales, so it would still have been an increased day (76 vs 69).

Don't know if it was just a blip or not, but it's a good day regardless.

Compared to other markets, another strong day.  A tad deceptively though as it was pretty top heavy at Century Arden and a couple of other theaters which saw a spurt in sales.  I expect it to come down a fair degree tomorrow.

I was thinking about switching to T-X comps tomorrow, but that would mean losing Shang-Chi for a day and rather than muck with my charts two days in a row, just gonna switch to T-x comps on Monday.  The Black Widow comp is gonna take a hit owing to it having a five day head start and likewise the Shang-Chi comp is gonna shoot up due to Venom 2 having a five day head start. The other two comps will see no change (TSS) and a negligible one (one more day of pre-sales).

Wonder if there were issues with Megaplex's servers during the past 24 hours... Surely it couldn't have been this bad, right?

It’s only an hour earlier than Venom.

Speaking of, V1 did 10*8. Going an hour earlier and being a sequel should serve to depress IM, but the pandemic has been boosting IMs a little imo. Expecting 6.6-7.4x. So to make top 3 OWs of the year would want to ~repeat the 1st one’s 10M.

Revisiting this, forgot that V1 had Sun boosted by Columbus Day. Looks like it would have been ~7.6 IM otherwise. I doubt V2 cracks 7x, maybe call it 6.2-7.

50M looking tough imo but we’ll see if there’s a final few day explosion.

Man, what is going on?

I'm really hoping/thinking that people will really start buying tickets in the few days leading up to release, as I don't think a Venom movie has the built in fanbase like the MCU, but this is worrying.

Maybe the marketing blitz still needs to come in with interviews and premieres and stuff. I watched football all day today and I didn't see a single Venom 2 ad on any of the games

All the data suggests that interest is there for this movie (trailer views, likes, fandango polls and whatnot). So I wonder why the numbers are so bad right now. Maybe Sony just really fucked it up with the constant release changes? The trailer is currently playing in front of screenings of Shang Chi, but still the version that just says "exclusively in movie theaters THIS FALL", instead of the date. And the posters movie theaters have of it say the October 15 date.
