I haven't paid attention to what other markets are up to, but this is really picking up steam after some quiet first few days. I guess all those release date change really were a hindrance.

Yeah that fan screening seems like it was a really smart move. I think it's the best marketing they've done for this film

How the hell is Cry Macho getting nearly 4,000 theaters with such little marketing effort unless that's a typo? I know theaters are still desperate to fill their screens with content since we're still not back to pre-COVID stable marketplace levels yet but...

This is around when SC started to take off iirc

This was Shang-Chi's third day of sales, so we're still in the initial buy stage.

As for matinees locally, after a quick check five of the seventeen theaters which theoretically could offer matinees are offering them, with the other twelve having standard pricing for all showings.

That's a quick check though and it could be off.  So either highly discouraged or a few theaters didn't get the memo not to charge matinee pricing.

(could also be incentives/differing sharing splits at play if there was matinee pricing or not)

So the ATP gap vs F9 and SC might not be the 10% that BW had. Maybe more like a percent or two. That does make these numbers look better — won’t help the Fri/Th multi though.

Last I checked Harkins had regular Matinee rates.

So national ATP is gonna be a little dicey perhaps. When we get ATP from the next keyser update that will be pretty useful though given the wide coverage.

Sony effed FFH OD and probably took away $5M+ off it with the discounted Tuesday OD, may be they learnt the lesson?

Copshop had easily its best day so far.  It's now ahead of Joe Bell (9) and House Next Door (7) but still terrible.  Cry Macho is at least a little interesting now.  Protege (33), Reminiscence (37) seem to be the best comps, but the Raleigh performance makes me wonder if it's overperforming there or underperforming in the other two cities.  Snake Eyes, Respect and Paw Patrol are others that skewed heavy in Raleigh for whatever that's worth.

Ah, the joys of deciding what to do to comps when a brand new, likely-to-be-strong, theater enters the equations. 👍

====

First time that happened locally, I Initially I gave a w/ and w/out comp but eventually I decided to say "screw it" and figured that it would simulate theater growth in the domestic market at large.

Is something to be said for it mostly reallocating ticket sales within a region, but I do think there is an overall bump to some degree simply due to extra convenience and/or good theaters bringing in folks wavering between staying at home or going out.
