Copshop counted today at 10am EST for Friday:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 13 (4 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
2 (3 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 1 (3 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 2 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 0 (2 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 6 (3 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 13 (5 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 37.

Comps: Angel has Fallen had on Thursday for Friday 446 sold tickets in 7 theaters,
and The Protege (2.9M OW) had 91.
Either this film has really good walk-ups (which I don't rule out
because it mostly happened with G. Butler films in the past) or it will not even get 3M OW.

Cry Macho counted today at 10am EST for Friday:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 17 (4 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
4 (3 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 4 (3 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 0 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 4 (5 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 16 (3 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 13 (3 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 7 theaters: 58.

Comps (all counted on Thursday for Friday): Those Who Wish Me Dead (2.8M OW) had 89 sold tickets in 4 theaters (so vs 50 sold tickets for Cry Macho),
The Good Liar (5.6M) had 102 sold tickets in 6 theaters,
Stillwater (5.2M) had 72 sold tickets in 6 theaters
and Richard Jewell (4.7M) had 167 sold tickets in 6 theaters.
Again a tiny bit better. I hope it can come close to 5M but I wouldn't bet on it. I mean, Clint Eastwood normally is still a draw but Those Who Wish Me Dead also wasn't able to reach 3M and why should this film have more luck.

Haven't been doing a lot of following since sept started on any films, mind you I don't know how much Copshop or Cry Macho would really flip the charts in Toronto. Just a quick glance at the screens tells me its going to be a little quiet.

Also too something for future considerations about Toronto (and Ontario, can't speak for other provinces). We will be entering into Vaccine Passport territory in the next little bit. It could affect box office for films up here depending on how people decide to make their choices on the issue. For those who don't know, in Ontario Vaccine passports as they are called, basically proof of vaccination, are going to be required in Ontario in places like Theatres, Resturants, gyms, sporting events, anywhere there will be large gatherings of people in those type settings. Its got a lot of people talking and so I just add it as a consideration going forward as to how Toronto box office may/may not be affected.

Copshop:

5:00: 3/77

8:00: 2/77

Total: 5/144

Comps:

2% of F9 (140k)

50% of The Card Counter (210k opening day)

100% of Stillwater (280k)

:sparta:

Blue Bayou: 1/40

Not even worth doing comps for this one. I doubt it makes more than 500k for the weekend.

I'll look at Cry Macho in the morning. It's sold around 20 seats for the day, which is above Reminiscence but below Malignant if we're looking at HBO Max releases.

So I'll admit my commute took longer than I thought so I didn't have time to check some of the earlier times. However...I doubt I missed anything.

Ah, the joys of deciding what to do to comps when a brand new, likely-to-be-strong, theater enters the equations. 👍

====

First time that happened locally, I Initially I gave a w/ and w/out comp but eventually I decided to say "screw it" and figured that it would simulate theater growth in the domestic market at large.

Is something to be said for it mostly reallocating ticket sales within a region, but I do think there is an overall bump to some degree simply due to extra convenience and/or good theaters bringing in folks wavering between staying at home or going out.

That's pretty much where my thinking was.  Report it separately for a while to see how it affects the others then start rolling it in.  Thanks!

Solid day. Best since presales began, but also seems to be "compensating" for yesterday's bad day. Hopefully a sign of better trends.

I don't think it'll do that bad, because it seems like it's doing marginally better in other areas and will probably skew Midwest in its appeal...but keyword here is marginal.

I haven't paid attention to what other markets are up to, but this is really picking up steam after some quiet first few days. I guess all those release date change really were a hindrance.

Didn't track F9's T-14 day, so it'll pop up on the comps tomorrow. Either way, really good stuff. Especially when it comes to Shang-Chi's comp gaining ground, which never happened until now. Can't wait for this and Bond tomorrow.

My local AMC is starting off with 6 show: 3 regular and 3 IMAX. This is actually more than they had for SC because for some reason they had no preview showings listed for SC in the first couple of days of presales.

So far total 51 tickets sold, 28 regular and 23 IMAX.

8 days later, Venom has now sold 91 tickets total out of 1536 seats:

  • 47 out of 1044 IMAX seats
  • 44 out of 522 Regular

Haven't started picking up yet at my theater, let's see how the next two weeks go.

Oh and as a heads up for people tracking Bond tomorrow, there are a couple of theaters doing an Early Access IMAX screening on Wednesday the 6th. It's not super common, only like three or so of the theaters I'm tracking are doing it, but do keep that in consideration when you're tracking.
