good that it started to increase already, the reactions tomorrow will certainly help

Well the reactions are tomorrow night, so they won't help until Tuesday. I could see the world premiere having some effect on night sales but that won't matter for Denver since Inception posts these in the afternoon.

Dune MTC2

Thursday:

Showtimes: 1128

Gross: 246639

Friday:

Showtimes: 2110

Thursday is somewhat close to Bond at the same point. Friday is well below (around 80%).

Eternals MTC2

Thursday:

Showtimes: 1967

Seats Sold: 21050/320645

Added around 2300 in the past 2.5 days. Slowish pace but not a big deal this far out (it has kept around 70% of BW's pace consistently). First big test will be the reactions bump and how well it can keep that.

Will post Fri tomorrow.

Let's see the pace on Monday. That's when real test begin. My projection remain same as they were weeks ago. 25-35 but now leaning more toward lower end if things dont improve.

Sounds about right. Also a lot of people will watch it early on HBO max. WB strikes again.

So something in the 40s is being replaced with something in the 30s. A domestic total of 100M looks like a dream now.

35M/80 would be respectable at this stage. It might struggle to get that. I really hope it picks up but its a few days of this malaise and its running out of time.

Lana needs to do everything in her power to get Matrix excluded from the Max release. It's disgusting to think that film and Dune will be saddled with the HBO Max 35M Special because of Jason Kilar's utter idiocy.

Maybe these HBO Max subscribers are worth more long term than the difference in US box office between the movie now versus the movie with a hypothetical theatrical-only release. If they went back on the promise they made to these subscribers with Dune or Matrix that might really sour people on the service.

If the movie blows up on streaming that probably bodes really well for the Dune: The Sisterhood prequel series, for instance.

Also consider the colossal bomb (and terrible movie, but that's neither here nor there) that was Wonder Woman 1984. A reported 166 million dollars at the box office on a 200 million dollar budget. And yet, WB claims they are developing both an exclusive theatrical sequel and an HBO Max exclusive spin-off film. Mortal Kombat returned 84 million on a 55 million dollar budget, but Variety reported last month that WB is looking to do more films in the same universe.

So I really think we'd have to have a pretty colossal tank in the US, UK, China, etc this weekend for them to hold off on the sequel.

WB would be very foolish to think Dune 1 is where the money is. Just saying. It was always going to be Dune 2 if the first is well received .

Plus it is a longer term investment in Villanueve.

Another meh day. I would wait until tuesday to spell doom as early PS was so strong. Still overall numbers are not bad. But I hope to see show count bump up by tuesday at latest but PS has to improve soon.
