The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

With this coming Tuesday, do we think tickets may go on sale Wednesday or they would/should wait until after Ghostbusters? I'm still banking on the 22nd/23rd but I also thought the trailer would be coming then.

I could see tickets with the trailer but there is the real risk of overshadowing Ghostbusters. If we recall when Endgame opened its tickets, the news kinda overtook anything Shazam-related for the next couple of days, though it's unclear if it actually affected the OW. Personally I think we should prepare for next week still since it does seem a fairly logical date.

It hardly needs more. Same PS length as Shang-Chi. 6 days shorter than Endgame. I think it would be a smart presale date if true.

If we want another example pre-COVID, Joker had a 11 day pre-sale window and that just fed the frenzy.  Not exactly the same thing, but sakes alive was that a crazy run (even if it had a hell of an underperformance in Sacto, the national trends were what they were).

Oh yeah the window is fine. It could be 10 days and be fine. I just want a huge movie to track already 😆

Choosing to wait until the long Thanksgiving frame is over seems like a pretty strategic choice. Sing 2 is currently the only Christmas movie selling tickets but that's because it's having special screenings across the country over Thanksgiving weekend too.

It also lets theaters know the performances of all the "big" movies left between now and Spidey, so they can more clearly imagine the clear out they wanna give...

Pre-sales before Ghostbusters Afterlife release?

Sony :hahaha:

Edit: 29 is what it is. Disney won't let Encanto suffer and sure as hell Sony won't hurt GB.

My original comment was from previous page saying pre-sales on same day as trailer.

The trailer rumors worked!!! :sparta:

(okay, 32 of tickets were for the two Wed early access shows, but still, a very nice jump today 👍)

What Ghostbusters: Afterlife isn't cutting it for you anymore? :sadfleck:

(seriously though, hope to see your tracking return soon as Sacto and Denver are often pretty similar and I find it useful for calibration on my end 👍)

I’ve been away from my computer the past couple days. I’ll be back to tracking tomorrow(well technically today but I haven’t gone to sleep yet so it’s not tomorrow lol) :)

Yeah, I think this movie's dunzo. Mickey's Law kills another. Or I guess maybe we should change it to Feige's Law, because apparently people only like to watch Marvel movies anymore. Shit's bleak.

I don't like using Respect comps because of the early access screenings. I don't remember ever seeing a number for those so the comp could be very different depending on how that was handled. Gucci is ahead of King Richard T-9 (37 to 28).  Don't really have any other comps this far out.

Sing 2 looks really good for the early access shows.  The only early access T-13 comp I have is No Time to Die (87).  Space Jam had 110 sales in these markets at that point but that was for a full Friday slate of shows.
