Added 41 shows and nearly 4k seats since yesterday, including the final theater in my sample at 12 shows.  Not too surprising then that sales had a pretty good bump as more shows became available.  There's still plenty of room in those shows so maybe the pace will hold a little higher for a couple of days.

I just checked and it’s at 53 shows for Thursday. I wonder if they added 11 more or your scraper is dropping 11 shows for some reason.

This morning

Empire - 5841/10685 118065.39 53 shows.

New shows are all 2d shows mostly before 6PM or crazy late shows. Combined sales across 11 shows is 29 tickets. So that has not moved the needle that much for Empire.

I'm seeing 583 already listed for Wednesday.  Trying to get a jump start on Spider-Man

They know it's going to get squeezed that Thursday due to Spidey demand taking over every theater cause it looks like it's not having Thursday previews. Ironic that The Matrix is the only movie opening within close proximity of the 800-pound gorilla that won't be doing early screenings to try and generate some buzz (in large part because it's going to be available to watch at home before the first shows even start in all likelihood).

The showcount seems low there. Gotta be more shows than this right?

This was what I was able to fetch yesterday morning. That is why I asked @katnisscinnaplex to confirm. This will go up as we go along. I look for shows with reserved seating at 595 theaters. Whatever comes up I pick it up. I did not get data for 32 shows but that is a noise compared to overall show count.

I read Katniss post, that said 8K shows in MTC 1 for previews, I forget we don't get all of them. That is why I thought FRI must be way more than THU. Our gross numbers though are almost overall since we are taking adult ticket rates, and I guess that's fine.

BTW I know you are looking for shows at whole chain but how many of them are actually sending data is what really I mean to ask when I ask about theater count.

I got shows for 426 theaters for OD. Previews are there for 432. I think there was another big shows added yesterday evening that I missed. For previews I can see 7264 shows(added more than 600 shows yesterday). Unfortunately with this process taking for ever I cannot do a quick check :-( MTC1 used to return data under half hour even for this many shows.

I manually checked empire and previews have 53 shows while OD have 51 shows. Plexes will add more screens for previews but have fewer screens for OD.

So C and R have more shows while A have fewer shows for now. That could change early next week as they weed out older movies.

https://deadline.com/2021/12/disney-hopes-for-long-holiday-dance-with-steven-spielbergs-west-side-story-global-start-could-reach-31m-box-office-preview-1234887032/

Quote

After a year’s delay due to the pandemic, Steven Spielberg’s remake of the Broadway classic and 10x Oscar-winning 1961 movie, West Side Story, finally tunes up this weekend as the sole wide major studio theatrical release in 2,800 U.S./Canada theaters and offshore debuts in France, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Russia and UK. All in, the global outlook is $22M-$31M, with $12M-$17M coming from domestic and $10M-$14M from abroad. The 20th Century Studios-Amblin production is being released by Disney.

While MGM/UAR’s House of Gucci provided a ray of hope for older films, particularly long-running ones eyeing awards, during the pandemic with $14.4M over three days and $22M over five, that boost had plenty to do with the availability of moviegoers over the Thanksgiving stretch. Any movie, even in pre-pandemic, opening in this pre-Christmas corridor is typically looking at the long game through the holidays and MLK weekend. There’s typically too many distractions given the holidays, but one of West Side Story‘s hurdles, which hopefully it can overcome in the long run, is the cautious adult audience, especially at a time when the Omicron variant is making news. On the plus side, Dr. Anthony Fauci said yesterday that the new strain is less severe than Delta.

WSS, counted today at 10am EST for Friday, December 10:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): still no showtimes
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24):
44 (12 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18):
28 (6 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 9 (3 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 13 (6 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16):
185 (9 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 232 (10 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 6 theaters: 511.

Up 26% since yesterday.
Comps (all counted for Friday): Cats (6.6M OW) had on Wednesday of its release week 225 in the same 6 theaters,
Respect (8.8M OW) had on Wednesday of its release week 97 sold tickets in the same 6 theaters

and In the Heights (11.5M OW) had on Thursday of its release week 773 sold tickets in the same 6 theaters. So WSS would need a 50% jump till tomorrow to reach the presales of In the Heights.
This is the third day in a row that WSS improved in the comps. OTOH the very good reviews didn't have much impact as it seems, it had a pretty normal jump till today.
As I said I don't have much hope that this movie will have big walk-ups but the presales are still (very) ok.
PS: A lot of shows were added till today. Yesterday it had in sum 25 and now it has 46.

National Champions had today only 6 sold tickets in now 5 of my theaters. Maybe the walk-ups will be better but this is worse than the number of Belfast (26 sold tickets) also on a Wednesday and that in 2 theaters. And the French Dispatch had 12 sold tickets already on a Monday in only one AMC (that in LA).
